Made offer 10 days ago at level we were told was acceptable to vendor and still no answer. Lots of positive sounds but no answer yet. Would you give an deadline? Just give up? We are still looking at other properties.

Carry on looking at other properties, perhaps with the same agent, so they know. If you find something you prefer, then go ahead and offer.
10 days does sound excessive. I think I'd expect to hear within 48 hrs, unless I was told they would consider it for longer.
Could be the EA playing games.

I hope we're not bidding on the same house! I've been waiting a week now. It's a probate and there's 4 beneficiaries. We're still looking but there's not much coming on the market where we're looking.

Its an elderly couple looking for a bungalow to downsize. Bit concerned as it is with our own agent who is obviously keen for is to get it so we can get on with our own sale....but it is on with another agent as well so could be some game playing.

I think after ten days I would be ringing to follow up.

Email the branch manager and ask for clarification.

I have ben ringing every two days. I think the agent is annoyed as well but doesn't know what else to do.

Elderly couples can have a different notion of the urgency of things. If it's not pressing for them to move, ten days does not seem like that much.

Do keep looking at other things, but don't write this one off yet.

I'd phone estate agent and ask or arrange to see other properties this might give the estate agent a kick up the bum to chase it up.

Just as we were giving up they have accepted :-). they couldn't work out why all their offers were being rejected on the properties they wanted until it was pointed out that they hadn't sold. Finally clicked!
