Moving to Bristol

Hi all,

I'm sorry if this is asked somewhere else and I've not found it.

My son and I going to be moving to Bristol in the near future and am looking to get some honest opinions about different areas to live. I'm going to be working at abbeywood so need somewhere within commutable distance of here. I have a seven year old son so schools are a huge priority also-as a single parent I am finding it all a bit overwhelming and very scary- a sense of community in areas would be helpful in any areas I may look at and may help with forming social networks in a new place.

I've looked at houses on the new development (Charlton Hayes) in Filton/Patchway-does anyone have any comments on the area and the schools in this area?

Have looked at OFSTED reports for various school but am interested to hear opinions as these reports don't tell all!

Any help would be appreciated-thanks in advance :)

Filton is much nicer than some parts of patchway ime.
Bristolians tend to be very derogatory of other areas to their own but we've found that its very much street by street not so much the area as a whole that matters and you can generally pick this up on a drive around/google street view.
I don't know about schools in that area - sorry! Smile

Hi.
Congratulations on moving to Bristol - I was born and raised there and it's an amazing city.
My Mum lives in Filton, I really like it.
For your son, I'd recommend Charborough Road Primary School, in fact my Auntie works there!
Let me know if I can be of any help.

I dont know Filton or Patchway very well so dont know any schools but know of the new houses you mention.

Frenchay is a stones throw from Abbeywood and quite a nice area, only school I can think of there is Begbrook which has a good reputation.

Or just next to Frenchay is Downend (South Gloucestershire) which has plenty of good schools to choose from.

In fact anywhere off the ring road would be ideal for Abbeywood and schools in South Glos do tend to be good, if sometimes a little small.
