Help on flooring

Im having a huge headache deciding on which flooring i should have in downstairs ie - Living room, kitchen, and hallway.

im going to have carpet on the stairs and in the bedrooms.

Ideally i want wood flooring in the downstairs (but not kitchen) but can't decide between solid wood, engineered wood or bamboo. I want something hardwearing , dont want high heel marks in my wood etc.

Which should i go for?

Also, im concerned about formaldehyde used in wood floors, can anyone shed more light on this?
