It would cost to build a 3 or 4 bed house?
Maybe slightly bigger than your average new build but not massive?

Would it be cheaper or more expensive than just buying a house?

Obviously I come at this knowing nothing and have no experience

On our wages we can get a £150k mortgage, maybe £170k

Just looking into all options atm

Depends totally on the design, materials used, and spec. Generally it costs less than buying from the usual market for the same thing.
There are a number of websites where you can punch in the sort of thing you're after and it will give you a rough estimation. Might see if I can find it.....

We built our own house on a quarter of an acre site, four big bedrooms 22000 sq feet for £65000.

It's the price of land now though and as far as I know the banks don't lend money to buy it. We always thought it unfair that we owned the land, but if we defaulted on the mortgage for the house, the bank takes it all!

Cheaper than buying new if you don't go all Grand designs on it

£180-200k to build the house if you have to buy in all the labour, plus cost of the land

Finger in the air starting point I'd go for £1k per m2

You can get an idea on here www.whatprice.co.uk/prices/building/house-building-total-cost-of-project.html

Northernruth Grin

That's exactly what I said to DH. 'We can't go all Grand designs up in here!'
No balconies, pools or even amazing views.

Would need to buy most work in but could get plans done for free and discounts on heating etc etc...

I'm scared and about to seriously hit Google/ those links Grin

Thank you all x
