Calculating cost of home contents for removal's men.

Stuck at the first hurdle with regards to booking in the removal's men. I have to write down the value of all our stuff. Standard liability is for £25k but I think they expect people to have more than that. How exactly are you supposed to know? Go through each room totting things up with a guess and a calculator? Does £50k sound about normal for a 3 bedroom house?

I used to work for a removal company so i have some experieince of this.

If you had to replace everything in your house, how much would it cost? Remember to include clothes, toys, computers, phones.

Living Room - Sofa(s) £
TV - £
DVD player - £
Sound System - £
Tables, lamps, ornaments other nicknacks - £
Dining table & Chairs

Kitchen (Are you moving white goods??)
Fridge/Freezer - £
Cooker - £
Washing Machine - £
Tumble Drier - £
Dishwasher
Small White goods
Microwaves, slow cookerWink, food prcessor, kettle, toaster
pots & pans, untensils,

Bedrooms
Beds
Wardrobes
Clothes
toys
Drawers

Other things
Computers
iPods
games consoles

It is also worth checking your home insurance policy to see if it covers you for damage done during removal, as if you tell you removal company the value of your stuff is over their Standard Liability they will charge you extra for extended cover, when it's unlikely you will have to make a claim at that level. And removal firms can be(not always) trixie when you come to complain over any damage done. Much easier to deal with if its through your own insurers IME.

Oh and if you have something of a very high value make sure this is listed so extra care has to be take with it.

Thank you very much for all that ... may subtly move this task on to DH to do! Good point re. home insurance policy though.

Work out the replacement cost. It's not that hard with various retail websites at you disposal.
