Oh you could be talking about my school.

Ladies nights, selling quiz sheets at the door on parents night etc, discos, photographer who can make a deal so you make money too, arial assault courses, xmas/summer fair, bingo nights, raffle ticket selling during school events, i.e parents nights, concerts etc.

Sponsored events too like a race round the school field, throw sponges at the teachers, beat the goalie. We have done a lot.

the pta at my dc's school have done pamper nights, first one went well, after that, it went a bit downhill tbh. quiz night was good, they did a 'beetle jam' (that drawing competition where you roll a dice and draw parts of a beetle, i won the booby prize), they do a kids disco every term, also did a movie night (although the choice of film was bad imo, mamma mia, a film where one of the main characters sleeps with 3 men and doesn't know which one knocked her up, shown to reception aged children )

we also do regular cake sales, last week it was the turn of reception/year one parent. another fund raiser is the 'bag to school' charity collection.

Christmas and Easter fairs during the school day. Children come out of lessons to have a few goes on things. That way you have a captive audience.

In our school the children's disco raises the most money with the least amount of effort. We have done Christmas decoration evenings which were reasonably well attended, but made hardly any money as the discos.

The summer fair made about £3,000 this year, but that is a LOT of work.

Also, at our school we find people are more likely to attend if they know what the money is going towards. For example, last year it was for outside furniture and this year it is the pond.

The quiz nights usually go well, too. We did do a barn dance last year that was very well attended, but this year hardly anyone came.

I think you have to decide whether you want events as a social for parents to get to know each other, or more for raising funds.

Have just joined the pta at my daughter's primary school and was looking through the ideas posted here - have picked up some fab ideas. I saw a posting from a website called www.skyecycle.co.uk. It's a recycle company which has a scheme for clubs and schools. Unwanted clothing and bric-a-brac are collected from your school by this company and give £450 for a tonne. Am really interested and wondered if anyone has used this company. Feedback, good or bad would be appreciated.

One school I know runs a hot dog stall every Friday. Parents know it is on so bring the money and include it in the routine of the week. Bread rolls, hot dogs, fried onions and sauces. Very simple and an excellent fundraiser.
