Really dreading DS starting school in September. Mainly because he didnt get our first choice school and will therefore be going to a different school from all his friends and my DD.

I feel like crying everytime I think of him going off to a different school from all his friends, I know it's silly and I'm sure he will be fine eventually but we all just assumed he would get a place at our first choice school.

We have discussed with him that he will be going to a different school but he just asks why he cant go with his friends and sister.

Is it a good school MrsS? Can't you find some new friends for him before he starts to help him look forward to it? Set up some park meets - there'll be other kids who know nobody else too surely. Am sure you know, but you have to be positive for him, and make it exciting too, otherwise he'll pick up on your feelings and could have a bad start.

Are you on the waiting list for the school you want? Several of our reception children have left so there is hope and the lists move quickly as people decline places once their children are settled.

We had slightly staggered starts when my DS1 began school and he started in a little group with children he did not know and the first daay he made a new best pal. They are so fickle and adaptable at that age. I am sure he will be fine although I understand your worry.
