Where do your children do their hw?

I am redecorating my child’s room (starting primary in Sept) and am wondering if they will need a desk in their bedroom; space is an issue so I need to plan carefully. I like the idea of a dedicated and quiet study space but can also see the benefit of supervising homework in a communal area eg at dining table. It would be helpful to know where your dc do their homework and their ages. Thanks!

We do all homework downstairs, the oldest is 10 and she doesn't like doing it away from everyone. It also helps when they need help, that they're downstairs.

Dining table. That way we can help if needed. Dc's are 12, 10, 8, 5 and 4.

Both DCs did their HW at the kitchen table at primary school. DS1 started to use a desk in his bedroom in year 7, but still uses the kitchen sometimes. DS2 (year 7) doesn't have a desk, doesn't want a desk, and uses the kitchen table.

Dining room table also but they do have desks in their room too.

On the kitchen table. They used to have desks, but they just because dumping grounds for clutter and another place to clean. I'm minimalist , no more desks and no more stationary in bedrooms, but that's another issue.

Kids are 6 and 9. Older teens do their homework either in the sittingroom, in the study or in their rooms.

Year 7 at kitchen table( though he has a desk under his high sleeper. )

Year 10 sitting on her bed, though she opted to get rid of her high sleeper . She has a small desk space.

All 3 of mine at the dining table until heading to University. They also stayed at in school study for last 2 years.
I did mine in my bedroom from Secondary onwards. But definitely for a Primary child the main area not bedroom.

Originally at the kitchen table and then we converted their playroom and they both did home work there.

Ok, your child is 4 do their bedroom how you and your little one would like, what kind of society are we developing if parents are worried about whether to put a desk in their child’s bedroom at the age of 4

DD started reception in Sept last year. Very little homework and what she does get is more activity driven. "Find something in the garden that reminds you of summer/autumn/winter." , " find out 3 things your parents like etc.

She tends to sit on the floor in the living room or at the kitchen table.

We did her room last year, midi bed and ikea storage units, we'll put a desk in when she's around 10ish i think.

We put desks in their bedrooms age 5-6ish. Thought they'd like them for craft etc and they'd be there for when they wanted to do homework.

They are now 10 and 12 and have never used them for homework, or anything much. We all use the dining table as a desk. One of the bedroom desks is gone already and we're expecting to get rid of the other.

My daughter has had a small table with a chair since primary. She's on in year one now.
It's in the living room. It's the same decor as the living room so looks quite cute. It's just a white lack table, the square one and white
Wooden chairs.

She does her homework there so we can talk about it with her and help etc.

We read in the sofa or before bed in her bed or my bed. Depending where she's sleeping that night. She reads one story usually her homework and I read a harder book.

When she is a bit bigger we will get her a desk for her room too.

But the table is really useful as she pays Lego and kinetic sand, lol dolls
On there aswell as eating her meals. We have no dining room
At the minute.

I’ve just redecorated my 2 DDs 14 & 12 rooms and taken out their desks. Neither of them really used them and they were just a dumping ground. They do have small rooms though so this has freed up space. Homework gets done on their beds or dining table.

At the dining table (at the opposite end to where they normally sit to eat) or at a little side table with a stool or on the sofa if no writing is involved. All in open plan kitchen/sitting room. They never do it in their bedrooms.

Primary (6 and 8 years old) at the dining table. The 12-year-old (Y7) usually uses my desk in the playroom/study. None of them have ever done homework upstairs so far.

Dining table at the moment, he’s 6.
We have a study that he can use when he’s at secondary if he wants to.

All through primary homework done downstairs either at kitchen table or at my desk in room of doom.

Now they are at secondary they have desks and a drawing board upstairs in their room and use those, as it is the only place they are guaranteed some peace away from their little brother! X

Dining table, or on the floor. She had a desk in her room but she never used it except to store junk on.
