Cranmore School vs Longacre School?

Hello all
We are currently looking at Cranmore School and Longacre school for our eldest son to start in September 2018.

We have looked at both and they are very different schools with different pros and cons.

Does anyone have any views or experience with either of these schools?

A lot of the posts we have found are quite
old so it would be great to get current thoughts and perspectives.

Yes. I took my son out from Cranmore. It does not fit every child. The set up is very competitive between the kids and school encourages it. You get a report with grades with the number of your child in the ranking of the class. Not everyone goes to the most selective schools. The 11plus process is too stressful znd there is no heart from the staff or headmaster.

Your child can achieve the same or more in another school and be happier.

As an ex Cranmore parent I would agree with both the previous comments. Used to be great in the Junior school but that is no longer the case after the previous Head of Junior school left. In the Senior school, pupils are streamed into classes based on whether they are 'Scholarship' material or not. Very competitive and focus is on the high academic achievers/A team sports players. If your child is neither of these, then I would definitely consider other options. Very little in the way of pastoral care. This opinion is based on my own experience, and my boys are much happier elsewhere.

Bit late to reply. I don't have experience of Cranmore but I do have experience of Longacre where I have two children and have been for several years. Longacre is a completely different environment to Cranmore as described above - it is all about balancing academic and pastoral, it is a warm and fun school and definitely not competitive (you get regular grade cards but certainly don;t get class rankings!). It is very inclusive and all children get to represent the school at sport whether it is your strength or not, it doesn't matter. We had a new head start in January and I've been really impressed with him and like the direction he is taking the school in. What year group would your son be going into? (my eldest is in year 4)

Hi as a current parent. I would strongly advise against sending a kid there. Kids of pushy parents are favoured and nepotism is rife! Some kids get treated very unfairly by teachers and it is very much one rule for some and another for others. Carpark is awful as well. There are some truly nasty mums there. Avoid if you can!
