When to start 11+ prep?

DD has announced that she wants to apply for local independent schools for year 7 entry. She's well aware that the chances of her going are rather (very) slim as I could only afford it on a full scholarship.

She's one of those very academic children who genuinely loves learning. Apparently the reason she wants to go is that she knows they push them to work harder and learn more. She's currently in year 4.

I've told her I'll obviously support her as much as possible, whilst making sure she knows she'll have to work incredibly hard and chances are she won't get it anyway.

I'm assuming now would be a good time to start working with her? What are the best resources to use? I've heard a lot about bond books, is this what we should be looking at?

What you need is a bursary, presuming your income is low. Scholarships are often token or 5-10%. You need to check the admissions and what sort of bursaries they offer. I would check this out before preparing her.

I've looked into the local schools, all of which say they offer up to 100%. I'm a single parent and also low income.

She really is such a determined thing and is already discussing degrees with me! She's far more interested in education than I ever was!
