KS1 Maths teaching in Year 2

Hello. Does anyone know anything about any changes in the way Maths is taught in Year 2 at all?
Asking because my DS (7) came home upset yesterday as he was told off for getting a question wrong when called on in class. I spoke to another parent who told me her DD has been upset by this too and they are being timed with a stopwatch when answering a question.
I know this is KS1 SATS year but I don't recall this happening with my other two DC.
Would it be worthwhile speaking to the teacher or do they all have to do this now?

I don'y know if it's anything to do with new NC. They always did some sort of timed challenge(normally very short one)at my ds' school in KS1. (My ds did sats in old NC)
But If I remember correctly, ks1 sats doesn't have timed test?

I thought it was a good practice. Sometimes children do need to concentrate and try to answer as many question correctly as possible in the limited time. If you never experienced it, you never know how it feels like.
