School rewards and recognition

My little boy started nursery school within our local primary school in September. He was 3 in the summer and he's settled really well. There has been no parents evening as yet but when I've asked about how he's getting on I've been told he always does the right thing and he's fine. The thing that's bugging me is he's never got a certificate, star of the week, reward and I see other kids coming out with them all the time. Is it an oversight or is he not engaging with them as he should. Know he's only little still but it's very frustrating when the school tell me very little. I don't want him to just float along and get missed.

Have you seen the same child with multiple certificates? It may just be the case of they want to make sure every child gets one and are working their way through the class and it just hasn't got to him yet. Our school nursery never did star of the week even though the rest of the school did. All I remember my dd's getting was a certificate when they learned to zip up their coat and one when they were able to 'write' their name.
It's odd that you haven't had a parents evening yet. Most schools have one early on in the school year. Usually Oct/Nov time and another one around March.
I wouldn't worry if they say he is doing well but if you are still worried then you can always arrange a meeting where you will have more time to discuss your concerns.

If you're worried, make an appointment with the teacher. However, don't start fretting about why your dc hasn't had a sticker/certificate/star! It means very little and, as others have said, teachers work their way through the class over the year.

All children end up with a ' star of the week' ( or similar) in the end. I wouldn't worry too much. It just hasn't been his 'turn', yet .

From bitter experience, sometimes teachers do forget.

Leave it til May half term and if he still hasn't, definitely mention it.

A bit like the August birthday children who never have happy birthday sung to them because no-one thinks about it. Wait a bit longer but mention it at the end of this term if he is still overlooked. You can always ask them to clarify what the rewards are and how children are selected. Personally I am glad we never had this in nursery or school. The teachers thanked helpful children and that was the reward.
