Daughter starting Reception and needs pe kit. What to get?

There's no official kit just been asked to provide a gym kit for weekly pe. Hung on peg and brought home half termly for washing.

I've no idea what I wore for pe so young (remember the hideous secondary school one though!)

White tshirt or just another polo shirt? Joggers or shorts? Cycling shorts or baggy ones? Shoes trainers or Sands shoes? Fresh socks or do they wear the Socks they have on?

Much to my surprise dd is a dress lover and all round girly girl when it comes to the clothes she gets to choose. When I told her about pe kit she asked when we could buy her a pe dress !!

I'm figuring those little drawstring bags are best to store it all in?

Drawstring bag - school one or school colours if necessary, but if so, with identifying keyring or something.
Shorts and T shirt in school colours if necessary for summer/indoor.
Cheap hoodie and joggers in black for winter outdoor.
Socks, as she may well wear tights.
Trainers, pref velcro.

Drawstring bag is best- get one she'll recognise as hers, ie not a frozen one from asda, which every 2nd child will also have.
Sand shoes - easy to put on, cheap to replace.
The rest is really personal choice. Whatever will be easy for her to deal with herself. She won't need socks, they'll either keep their uniform socks on or go barefoot.
You'll probably find that they'll just change shoes for the first term or so, rather than a full change.

If she likes dresses M and S do a skort. I 'd get one of those, a polo shirt either white or school colours then some joggers and a hoodie for cold weather.

Drawstring bag, trainers, shorts, polo shirt, joggers and a fleece/hoodie (if they do outside PE in winter, like ours do). Check what the school colours are or if they do some PE uniform, such as the polo shirt.

Ensure you label everything. If something is going to get lost, it is most likely to happen when 30 4 to 5-year-old children are trying to get dressed/undressed for PE.

If she has difficult feet then Clarks do plimsolls in half sizes and width fittings.

Unless there is a specific uniform them the girls seem to wear the skorts or cycling shorts. Asda website usually has them and it's free delivery to store.

She has very thin feet - is a 10.5E at 4 1/2 years old so I may have to go for Clarks which is a pity as they are so overpriced.

Watching a bit of sports day is a good plan - and the school is only at the top of the street so I walk past most days.

Is it worth getting a tshirt with her name embroidered onto the front? Easy to return! School colour is red. For preschool she either wears and white or red polo, grey soft pinafore and a red or grey Cardigan.

Baggy shorts in school blue (girls usually wear cycling shirts but DD has chosen baggies)
Black PE pumps in ks1, trainers in ks2 when they go outside.

all the girls here wear cycle shorts, and the boys baggy. (but dd1 always chose baggy and it wasn't and issue)

plain T from supermarket, their pe T shirts are about £2 for 2.

black pumps/daps. at reception don't get trainers of any sort, get daps. There are daps with a velcro strap which is handy for narrow feet.

Our school suggests a pair of tracksuit bottoms too. It is never worn for indoor pe, but sometimes (hardly ever) for out door. They usually stick their school jumpers on if it is too cold for T shirts outdoors.

But having the tracksuit bottoms in the pe bag was very useful in reception for the odd accident. With dd1 I always kept a spare pair of knickers in there too.

Clarks plimsolls only come in 2 widths (F and G), both too wide for DS. (D/E) Ditto Start Rite. Plimsoll shopping is hideous. There's a cheap brand called DEC that we have to track down every summer.

I found these Next ones are good for narrow feet. They are narrow anyway but being able to tighten them as well.

I wouldn't bother with plimsolls - my DC have never had them. I always send trainers into school for PE. IMO you can run better in trainers. However, in my DC school they don't do outdoor PE till the summer term - so don't need PE shoes till then. Most schools do bare feet only in the hall.

At our school it's white tshirt, white shorts and pumps. They don't get changed at our school until Easter of the reception year. They wear uniform and put the pumps on. They don't need tracksuit bottoms or top. A lot of the girls wear the shiny football shorts which I think are horrible so I got mine cotton rugby shorts.

When my dd was in primary I got her drawstring bag from eBay and it was personalised, she used it all through primary even though it had hello kitty on, she didn't care!

Pe kits came from M&S, next, Tesco just where ever I saw one when I needed one, it was just black shorts and white tshirt from their school range, that's what the school asked, no logos, branded stuff or football kits.
