DS is in Y1, I know they have a test at the end of the year but I haven't been able to get any information out of teacher. Could you point me towards some links please?
He gets list of spelling HW weekly and we practise them. What else can we do to prepare?
Is there a video of show the test will be conducted? Is is a oral test or written one?

Thank you

It's a oral test using knowledge of phonics. Nothing to worry about. Your child is given real words and made up words to read. I don't think many children fail if they are up to date with phonics teaching, and if they did, they will get extra support, so really nothing to stress about. If you are particularly worried, ask the teacher how to help your dc.

Your child will be asked to decode 40 words (20 real and 20 pseudo) to a familiar teacher. The pseudowords have a picture of an imaginary creature next and the teacher tells the child the words on this page are made up names for the aliens/silly creatures/monsters and the words on this page are words you might know.
The check takes between 2 - 10 mins depending on how much child chats about the pictures.
If your child can decode words accurately (reading books) and is being taught phonics you don't need to do anything.
