Hi all,

We are moving to the West End area of Woking in 2015 and wondered if anybody could recommend good primary schools for my son who will be starting Year 3 in September 2015. He loves sport and currently goes to an all boys school. Would be happy to look into private also (if not too expensive!) but if anybody has any recommendations or advice I would be really grateful. We are open to areas as haven't bought a property yet. TIA

Not sure quite what you mean in terms of being open to areas as West End is a small village- pretty much consists of one primary, a petrol station and two main housing areas- you're only really choosing between Lucas Green or the Nursery Green Estate! It's a bit of a black hole for school places- the primary doesn't have enough places for all the village children and there are very few other closeby schools. There's Bisley Primary in the next village along but that gets filled up with Bisley children, after that the next nearest primary schools are a bit of a drive out. Lightwater is closer than Woking but up a dual carriageway with no pavement. You'd also be tied to which schools had places, or you could appeal. Secondary is a whole different nightmare from West End- you're either looking at Gordon's which is actually in West End, or being bused out to Camberley/Winston Churchill in Woking. West End isn't really Woking tbh and a bit of a public transport black hole. Most children end up going to the Camberley schools as Winston tends to fill up from closer into Woking and Gordons admission criteria doesn't really make it a local school- my niece lives a five minute walk away from Gordons and didn't get a place! In terms of private schools, lots of girls preps and seniors accessible from Woking but really not a lot of boys' options, off the top of my head I can think of RGS in Guildford for Secondary, St Andrews for prep or otherwise you'd be looking at Windsor/Ascot/Weybridge. Probably not what you wanted to hear!
