Which online maths programme? Looking for one for Ds in Y2

Have any of you used an online maths resource and one you would recommend?

Been looking at the Carol Vorderman site, had a little look at the Mathwhizz site but I'm unsure of which one to go for.

I can't see that one would be hugely different to the other but you never know. I do like CV, I know she's not everyone's cup of tea but I can only imagine that anything she does regarding maths would be good.

We started of on 'Carol Maths' as we call it, but she really really annoyed DS1, so we switched to Maths Whizz. Although he still whinges about having to do extra maths, he prefers it, because its more interactive (cartoony) and he can earn points (or something) to feed his pet dragon. Some sections are better than others, and some sections can get very, very monotonous because theres a lot of dragging stuff into the correct boxes, but overall I think its helping him. (He is yr 2)

Tbh I'm not sure what ds will think, the laptop is for Minecraft in his eyes but I want him to enjoy maths and not have the fear that I did and I think the more he practices the more confident he'll become.

I've been recommended mathletics (it's on my list of things to do this week)

I'd recommend //www.Komodomath.com - I like the way it's designed for home use. We use it on ipad and android tablets so there are no arguments. I actually like the way it's not too cartoony and it seems to be working in terms of skills and confidence.

My DDs successfully have used (indeed DD1 has finished) Mathsfactor arithmetic school. But I have to say I think it's a very girl friendly site and may not be exciting enough for boys.

Also some units just seemed to go on and on - which can be hard going for all concerned.

I'd also add mathletics: www.mathletics.co.uk/ - which some on MN have praised.

My view is most of these offer trial periods - so have and explore and include your DS in this choice.

I think My Maths is just through schools - also having had video format lessons on mathsfactor - I find the format very dry - the lessons are in effect power point slides.

One other format may be of interest. Khan academy has started to support US school curriculum (3rd Grade US = Year 4 UK) - this is entirely free: www.khanacademy.org/ - select LEARN off menu bar then select MATH and then select 3rd grade US. I've noticed they've now put up early maths (so if there are gaps have a look there as well under a particular unit).

Thank you so much for your suggestions, especially PSBD lots of info for me to look at with ds.

I've treated myself to the book Maths for Mums and Dads too so hopefully will be a bit more use when he brings homework back
