Just to check with Bucks parents, everyone knows how the 11+ is changing, right? If not find out, especially if you're tutoring your child.

I'd save your money if I were you.

Well, under the old system about 80% of the kids who passed were tutored, either by tutors or their parents.

It seems that a lot of tutors are still doing things the old way, and not preparing the kids with the right materials.

I'd lay money on most of the kids passing the new test having had tutoring as well, but it would be a really, really good idea to make sure that they're getting the 'right' tutoring if you're going down that route.

The test isn't finalised yet. So no-one will know what to tutor.

What are the changes??

I believe that:

Instead of just NVR, there will be VR, NVR and maths (all multi choice). two tests of 45 mins taken on the same day in September.

The contract has been awarded to CEM. Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Maths.

But very different from the old GL test. No more '21 types'. Much more complicated and involved. The test (it operates in other areas) changes slightly each year, so is supposed to be 'unteachable', but there are things which keep coming up.

Two test of 45 mins, broken into sections. Both tests count and the scores are added together.

I'd say quite teachable if you know what you're doing, but a lot of tutors clearly don't and seem to be ignoring the changes

Have a look at this :-

It should explain most of what you need Smile. I am so glad that I am out of it now.

There is a 11+ blog - it's a free course really - on the tutordoctor website in bucks. It is written by an experienced 11+ tutor, has educational clips to tutoring videos from the Khan Acadamy, Bitesize, and other sites that are relevant to the 11+. There are exclusive practice questions, examples of actual Bucks papers.
Here's the link to week 1:

The 11+ in Bucks this year again, so the practice questions wouldn’t be relevant for next September’s 11+.

I'm not sure what you mean underneaththeash. The blog is aimed at this year's 11+, the new GL exam that the kids will sit in September 18.

The exam went from GL to CEM, and this year 2018 it went back to GL again. (It's no wonder people get confused!)

Yes, the exam is new for this year..so different to previous years and different to the GL from before - as stated in the Bucks county literature. So you can't have relevant past questions.

It's another attempt to make it untutorable.

The new GL is different to the previous GL, but this blog is covering the new GL stuff, the same stuff that the big 11+ centres are currently doing - I have checked. There is an element of the unknown, yes, but I think that on the whole tutors know what they are doing.
Trying to help despite the negativity.
