Hoxton primary schools anyone?!

Hope someone can help, I've found a few threads about N1 schools over the past few years, but where I live seems to be off the radar and I'd really live some advice.
I live in Hoxton and would love to stay in or around the area but the school situation is a bit of a worry.
Anyway, DH is completely against any denominational schools so that leaves me with Whitmore, Burbage and Thomas Fairchild. We are planning to move but not too far to make much of a difference to our local schools,  Rotherfield  would probably be our local if we moved into the area we like best. Does anyone have any experience or know anything about these schools?

There is a chance we may move more towards Angel and that seems less of a problem as Hanover, William Tyndale and canonbury appear to be well regarded on mumsnet, is this still the case?
The only school that appears to be well thought of that is even remotely near us currently, is Prior Weston. We are about 2 streets out of their catchment area unfortunately, although their ofsted doesn't appear to be that great anyway, not sure what all the fuss is about. .

So, Burbage, Whitmore, Thoms Fairchild  and Rotherfield. Any opinions out there? I don't really have any mum friends in the immediate area so advice is really appreciated.

Many thanks

The first three of the schools you mention have been consistently undersubscribed for I think the last 3 years - not a good sign. People rave about Prior Weston, so I would move nearer to it if you can; similarly the Islington ones. All those are v oversubscribed, so check the distances of places offered over the last few years (council website). Where do the kids on your street/estate go? And if there aren't any - that may be your answer.

Thanks quiller, I teally appreciate your thiughts. I think you basically confirmed what I suspected! As far as I can tell the kids on our estate go to the nearest school which is CofE, but I'm pretty sure that's under subscribed too, no catchment area. My husband will avoid any kind of religious schools no matter what but all the schools seem similar in Hoxton.
It's funny about prior Weston, everyone seems to love it. Interestingly my childminder is the only person who doesn't rave about it. She moved her kids there a year ago and thinks its 'ok'. It not as good as their last school apparently. I really trust her judgement.
I never wanted to be one of those parents who obsessed about schools and certainly never imagined I'd move just to be near a school, but from the limited feedback and general observations about Hoxton, its actually starting to worry me a lot. As we look at houses I'm finding myself getting further away from the area. I think I'll check out the council websites and investigate distances of places offered, I didn't know you could get that information so that's a brilliant tip, thank you

My DCs are at Rotherfield - you're welcome to PM me if you want to chat about it. But the best thing to do is look around the schools in question and get a direct feel for each; you can get wildly varying opinions about the same school from different people. The main thing is how you yourself feel about it when you look around. Good luck Smile

Hello

Would you mind letting me know how your kids are getting on at Rotherfield? It is our local school and I am stressing to the max wondering if it is good. Thanks

Nice newish head at TF. Really good person, so I'd be amazed if that's not on the up. Definitely worth going to have a look.
