Just wondering if it would be possible for ds who is on white book band to be working at 3b nc level. It looks too high in my opinion.

Nah, white is about 2a, I think.

I think white is level 3

Thought lime was level 3, Indigobell? DD1 got a 2a in year 2 SATs many years ago and she was reading white books then.

The list I've got (was posted on here before, but I don't have the link, just the doc) says white = 2a

Thats what I thought. Yet ds has just been given targets for working towards 3a.
Just doesn't seem to equate.

How often are these targets given to you?

It doesn't follow that she's a 3b, just because her targets are a 3a.

what year Bath70? You're lucky to be even given targets, my DDs school have NEVER told me their targets for the next year. Well this year the worm is turning, I am going to ask and not be fobbed off, God Damn it!!

Sorry, as you were...ahem...

I have NO idea what any of this means?! My DD has just started Yr2, should the school be telling me about this?

Has he just joined a different Junior school?

I must admit I was impressed with receiving this info. 1st time for me newterm.
I guess because its a school with a large proportion of 3's awarded at ks 1 sats I am a little sceptical that this is a true reflection of his ability.

No newterm goes to a combined school. JMI.
UpsyDozy don't worry I knew nothing at start of year 2.

What books are the bands referring to? Is it ORT?

Report
bath70 · 14/09/2011 17:39

School uses lots of different books which are grouped in bands. Not sure what ORT level white is.

You can be a level 3 and reading a white band book. It's not 100% accurate like that.

If she got a L3 in SATS, then that is what level she is.

UpsyDozy - the colours are book bands. Most schools use it and put stickers on their books to band them.

Hmm. NC levels do not correlate directly to book bands, don't forget, he could have been reading at a higher level in class on a regular basis and played a blinder in the reading comprehension test. But I still find it a little suspect to award a 3b at white level.

We need mrz...

not sure KS2 white book band is the same as KS1 white book band. DD1 was put onto white when she started Y3 (we'd just moved to the UK from overseas). DD2 was on white at the end of Y1 but not the same level of book at all (separate infants and juniors).

dd reads white band books but is not doing all the associated skills for a level 3
