Do you buy a new one every year?
And can you just wash them in machine?

Ours have lasted 3 years then I replaced them but they are chucked and dragged around by my rough and tumble boys! I know of others that are still on their first one. Not sure about washing them though.

no.. why would you buy a new one if the old one is ok?

never needed to wash one myself, am sure a good scrub would do no harm tho

I used to put ds's (given to them by the school on induction day) in the washing machine sometimes.

He used the same one until the start of Y5, when they became seriously uncool.

I don't think i've ever bought a proper one at our current school. I hate them, they get knackered really quickly and are horrid to try and carry especially when you've got four to get to the car.

I have been buying them a new bag each year instead, a proper bag like one with a strap or a backpack, big enough to fit flat sheets of A4 in though.

I resent buying anything with the school logo on it, what a waste of money.

No, I don't buy one every year. Shock

They should definitely last three years. You can wash them, but I try not to.

And if your DC keep their book bags in a box/tray during the day, you will look like an awkward idiot if you buy a different bag which doesn't fit in.

I wash mine on a 40 degree wash every half term, and we are in the 5th year of use and look like new. And this is "looked" after by a boy Grin

Ds (nearly 9) has had one since reception with IKEA reflective duck and pig stickers on it. We do have a newer looking one I offered him to go back to school with - mainly because I thought he might think the stickers make it look a bit young and uncool but I can't get them off.

He said he'd use the new one but could we get some duck and pig stickers for it he likes them :)

He's going back with the old one - bless him :)
