12yo very tearful during periods

DD just started her periods, is now in the middle of her 3rd one and once again in tears about everything, and next week I bet (hope) she'll be her happy self again. I do not have that at all, I am grumpy and depressed before my period start, but then skipping away as soon as they have started, so I am a bit curious if this is something common.

I can be tearful before and for the first couple of days but, like you, don't know if it's common.
