Hi

My 2.9yr old has started preschool this week two mornings a week, he is ok though still a little unsure, trouble is my 1.9yr old screams the place down when I try and leave (he really wants to stay) and he hate being apart from his brother.

How can I make it easier for him?

I think you will find it will calm down with time. DD hated it when DS started school as she was used to spending much more time with him, but gradually she realised that no DS meant more time alone with Mummy = good thing!

Can you let your younger child know that you will be doing "something fun" after you have dropped off the older? (preferably not in earshot of the older or he might not want to go to pre-school!)

Thank you very much for replying, I will definatly try your suggestion and just give it time.

We've had exactly the same thing with my eldest going to school. My DS2 isn't the only younger sibling in the play ground missing someone.

We're into week 3 and it is getting better. Going out to 'play football' and to the 'big' park have helped. DS2 is slowly learning that it can be quite fun to be on his own with mummy!

The age gap between mine is about 2yrs, and I have to admit it's taken a bit of time for me to re-adjust to having one and for me to give DS2 the attention he needs.

I have consoled myself with the fact that it's good that they are close and do get on well. Just hope it lasts when they're older!!
