What went down well at your summer fair this year?

Just thought I'd start a thread to share any good ideas.

Our fair was yesterday, and went down really well I think. The big winners were the cake stall (small cakes sold best), the tombola & the raffle. We also did well with a small 2nd hand items stall, and profits from charging various sellers to come in to the fair and run their own stalls (e.g. Virgin Vie, Pampered Chef, Jewellery sellers....).

Big hitters this year were:

bottle tombola
teddybear tombola (also excellent stall for off loading all the zillions of soft toys you have gathering dust under your DC's beds)
cake stall
raffle (you do need one or two really, really good prizes, not just a table filled with lavender talc)
sumo suits!

I love the idea of a teddy tombola! I could contribute all the prizes just from our collection I think!!!

Another mum suggested a selection box tombola as a Christmas fete idea. She suggested having a mufti day before Christmas, and instead of bringing in 50p or whatever for wearing own clothes, that kids bring in a selection box. Then they go into the tombola. Sounds fab to me!

popular at DS's summer fair was the one (don't know what it's called) where there were a load of wine bottle on the table with a plastic cup over the top of each. Some were empty bottles, some were unopened. You paid £1 for 2 goes at lifting the cups if you found an unopened bottle you won it

teddy tombola very popular here as well. For about 4 weeks befor ethe fete, we had "teddy Tuesday" and et the children to bring in the teddies they don't want from home.

We brought in one teddy and came home with 2

DS2 had 9 goes on the "Fling the wet sponge at the teacher" stall - that was very popular as long as you have game for a laugh teachers

The beer tent and barbecue had a queue constantly.

And for me, the Pimms went down particularly well.

Cake stall- though we had loads of cakes left over - boxed them all up and made an extra £32 selling themafter school on the Monday.

Tombola (bottle for adults/jamjar for kids) prizes donated by parents in return for dressing up day Friday before.

Pimms - have to make sure you don't price but ask for donations to get around licensing laws.

We only have about 40 parents, and insteadof a bbq do hot roast pork sandwiches - local butcher gives us meat at cost. Far far easier.
