My dd1 is 4 in November and has just finished her year at playschool 3 mornings a week before she goes to nursery at big school. The playschool has a great reputation, the staff are very caring, older and stable. The OFSTED report is great but I have had no written or verbal feedback about dd1. Is this normal.

i dont think they have to provide any at that stage but it would be good practice to! ive just received my 4 yo feedback form with her early learning goals marked off and its a load of rubbish - she can write loads of words, can write every letter of alphabet and read quite a lot and they have ticked off she "can make marks on paper" !!!! so you might be better off without one - seriously though im sure they would provide something if you asked!

you should have received heaps of information outlining telling you which stepping stones your dd achieved. The staff should have been keeping records since her third birthday

apologies i didnt read your op properly - just saw she is about to go to nursery so assumed she was younger - yes i got the full early learning goals checklist although as previous it was rubbish anyway !

Do you think should do anything about it. DD has been really happy there. They do lots of craft, cooking, stories, singing etc and all seem very busy and well stimulated

I guess it depends what you think preschool is for. I only wanted DD to socialise and work on social skills, so all this "Learning Story" stuff (heaps of paper about the stepping stones) seemd like overkill to me. In your place, I think I would just talk to the staff in the autumn, let them know that you would have liked more feedback.

I think I am a neurotic mother. just want to make sure dd1 is doing everything she should for her age etc. The reason I sent her to preschool was so she could get used to her socialising with out me and let ds have some 1:1 time

a nursery or pre school is the exact type of place i would want feedback from so they should know to give it - most children are probably different in that setting and we dont get to see it - even from does she interact/play well with other children - some are to quick to close the door behind you and have them ready to go at the end of session so you dont get to speak to the staff hardly although my dd has enjoyed her time there so can only be disappointed in feedback/lack of information

I know hat you mean cleaninglady. it is a quick drop off and pick up. The staff are always tidying up as you put coats on etc
