My dd does not come here so I said I would ask.She has two wonderful little boys[4 and 6] and both have been doing well and seeming to be happy healthy lads.Recently dgs2 who is just finishing nursery has made massive leaps in his reading readiness-blending words and spontaneously reading simple books unprompted. His teacher/TA are delighted.BUT this has coincided with a reversion to really babyish, whiny behaviour at home.He is determinedly sucking his thumb though he had almost stopped, is picking fights with his brother then crying and blaming. He has meltdowns-not full on tantrums but nearly.
On Sports Day he would not compete just wandered down the track-he refused a sticker 'for trying' because, "I didn't try"!
He used to be such a laid back little chap-what do you think could be causing the problem?
He has a little group of friends but won't play with children he doesn't know.He has been 'picked on' a bit by one of the girls in his class but doesn't seem too bothered,"I just breathe at her!" This is demonstrated with a sigh.

Might it be a reaction to leaving preschool and starting school? Not wanting to be a big boy, but wanting to stay in a safe environment? Also the heat is making DD vile at the moment with tiredness!

Thank you.His move will only be across the floor from the nursery group to the Reception group [small village school].Choc you may be right about the girl-he says "xxxx wants me to be naughty but I won't" "xxxx pushes me but I say she's boring".Also it has been very hot and he is getting more tired.Dd just said that he'd been uncharacteristically awful all weekend.I said it reminded me of her when she was little-very prone to tantrums until aged about 5.It will all work out-I guess she should just be happy about the reading. He sits on the loo talking to the words eg"I know you you are car c-a-r yes you are car" etc.
