Bread

Imagine I have no idea about bread, how to make it, whether to buy mixes or basic ingredients... but I have a bread maker!

The family eat a certain amount of it, usually in Tesco meal-deal sandwiches.

Experience suggests I need to get ahead in this.

WWYD?

I'm happy to make bread up in the maker, but then cook it in the oven, to avoid ' the hole'.

But I'm thinking my window to 'experiment' and perfect is closing, what with 'everything'...

Can anyone guide me, please?

Wraps freeze well few packs of throw in oven and bake rolls last mth or so practice flat breads which don't require yeast in case you run out and have fun with the bread machine maybe try sweet breads as well as extra treat/breakfast

Just start by making a nice loaf in the actual machine.
Honestly, the hole isn't that bad, when you slice the bread you just get one or two slices with a little split in the bottom. No big deal.
Then you can experiment with other types if you like.
Just remember to stock up on some yeast and bread flour in case it starts getting difficult to get hold of again.

I love my breadmaker and 'the hole' is a minor annoyance that I can easily ignore. It felt a bit extravagant to buy it, but I am now so glad I did as having one in the house plus flour, yeast and various breadmaking supplies of course, has given me a huge peace of mind. Especially as one of us (me) is gluten free and the other isn't, I can make GF loaves for much less than supermarket prices and not have to worry about the GF stuff being sold out. I enjoy the loaf the day it's fresh then slice the rest and freeze the slices. Then I toast it and have with soups or as a snack.

I make my bread in a stand mixer with dough hook- mix the ingredients together and put machine on for 5 minutes. Leave in bowl to prove for 60-90 mins then shape!

I can make it so quickly now I was doing it every other day in lockdown

We've been using a bread maker for the last 10years.

I tried it once, hated it, it took me ages to weigh it all and felt entirely too much effort.

Then I watched my dad use his, and he wacked it all together with very little attention and in about 3mon flat!

So I decided it was clearly one of those things you have to keep doing til it becomes easy and you don't have to think about it.

Now I can even put bread on after a night out on the booze (not right now obvs!).

It's so worth persevering with, we have a hook to get the paddle out but don't really worry about the hole. I make it at night and set the timer so it's ready for first thing in the morning.

I'm another bread maker fan, I use it most days. I put the timer on before bed and wake up to delicious fresh bread. The hole is not even a consideration let alone a problem. I also use it for pizza dough and brioche buns regularly and occasionally cake.
