Struggling with Infatrini

We have a 14 week old boy, born 3 weeks prem, with low birth weight (4lbs 8oz). He has been put on infatrini as weight gain is very slow. However, I am now finding that he is taking less of the infatrini each day, and each feed is a struggle. Not sure if he might have reflux, got a prescription for gaviscon from GP yesterday (over the phone with the nurse, NO appts!!!) seeing the paed again on 13th jan, but with no one around to speak to over Xmas, it is feeling very hard right now! I have been looking online to see how other people found the infatrini in the early days but no joy, he has been on it for 2 weeks now.

I don't have much experience with Infantrini, but we were prescribed Nutriprem for weight gain with my prem twins. DTD really struggled with it, she would take an hour to take maybe 30ml. She also had a poor suck which didn't help! Are you using a large teat? Infantrini is really thick so your DS could be struggling to get anything from the bottle. It could also be reflux, how is he after feeds?
Hopefully the Gaviscon will help, if it doesn't there are plenty of other options, both DTs are still on reflux meds at 13 months.
I really sympathise, dealing with a new baby as well as the pressure for them to feed well & gain weight makes things even harder!

Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time, worrying about weight gain is very stressful from my experience. I don't have any knowledge of the product you mention but we were given Nutriprem Two but ditched it for Organic HIPP ready made milk as some babies on NICU were having side effects e.g. Constipated, swollen. DS seems to like it but it's early days. Good luck xx

Thank you for advice. We bought different teats today which already seem to be better. Trouble is he is now full if cold too. It seems to be one thing after the other the other with this little one!

I had prem twins who are 1 year actual as of 2 weeks ago. Twin 2 had iugr and was a really low birth weight 1lb 12oz and is still small now (around 15lb at last weigh in). We saw a private dr about 6 months ago as we were worried about weight and he prescribed infatrini and also anti reflux meds. He is still on both and things are much better now. His volumes have improved and his weight gains have been much better the past 3 months or so. We have however been struggling to wean him and still are. We were referred to a specialist feeding clinic (nhs) for help with this and they don't like infatrini saying it fills him up too much and won't help with weaning. I don't totally agree with this. I like the infatrini on a number of levels inc it gives me the reassurance that he is getting extra cals when 6 months ago he was barely eating anything at all.

If u have any questions just ask

Take care

Yes, the volumes taken by babies on Infatrini are smaller as it's so concentrated. My DS was a crap feeder (29 weeker, IUGR, on oxygen, severe reflux). Agree with previous advice re: medium/fast flow teats. A cold, teething or illness meant DS's volumes dropped too. Hang in there, prems can be harder to feed x

I know this is an old feed but my lo has a vsa heart condition andhas been put on infitrini as well as ometrozol for silent reflux and I'm not sure what to do as she seems so unsettled and has the most awful wind down below I can feel her tummy bubbling. Its been 11 being on it. We were on sma high energy before whicj she was fine with. I dont know whether to suggest her going back on that. She is also sick nearly every other feed which she wasn't before

Listen to all the info but follow your gut. I posted on this thread when it was first up. As already noted we ignored advice and went onto HIPP organic and haven't looked back since. Good luck. Feeding issues are so stressful. Xxx

I mixed Infatrini with Hipp Organic milk, which made it a bit less thick. Might help for you?

Such a relief to see a mom goin through simular situation my daughter is 17weeks old born at 37 weeks by emergency cesearen throughout my whole pregnancy i was moniterd twice a day they new my baaby was goin to be small her birth weight was 4 pound 12 ounces she was in special care for 2 and half weeks.her weight dropped to 4 pound 5 . She was on nutriprem 1 nutriprem 2 and was aloud home my baby had reflux from day one she was changed to sma it made her worse at 4 weeks old she was admitted they agreed she has reflux and colic she was released and was put on aptamil comfort my baby has always gained weught she is currently 9 pound slow at gaining weigjt but never lost it 17 weeks later after birth she was admitted for high temperatures and runny nappys they took bloods so on so forth i was told by 2 doctors my childs head was to big and at 11 in the night i asked the doc did bloods come back he said yes theyr fine he thinks irs a viral but he said ithinkyour child has a growth problem shes gaining weigjt but not enough i official was 62 hours without sleep the morning she was being released doc said baby dont need no growth tests he wants her to go on infitrini abedec galfer because iron is low . She was released such a relief i was told my babys head was also perfect i was advised dont give my baby infitrini until shes better on the Monday i started her on infitrini abedec and iron Tuesday morning i had appointment for her i took her to hospital doc weighed her the usuall he said baby is to stay on infitrini for 2 months and he will see me in 2 months herhead and hips was checked he said shes perfect thank god such a relief about to leave and anouther doc comes in babys back on bed examining her again for the second time and says she needs extra on hips she has no head control which she does i got my baby onto my shoulder she held her head. She apologised ! She said i think your baby has a growth problem she needs bloods to be taken i said no way it took the hospital 3 attempts to get bloods from her in hospitalwhen they had that concern for growth they should of done it theyr and then but i was told she doesn't have growth probabem she said infitrini isnt working so we have to do bloods i said my child is only on infitrini 1 day she said ow i apologies i didnt no! She said i want her back in 4 weeks not 8 weeks and if she hasnt better head control we will have to extra her neck and head and if shes not going up on weight chart we have to do bloods . By the way i asked what can i do about my childs reflux she said notthing you can do was about to leave and she was doing hand gesters about my babys tummy to other doctor i caught her and said whats the problem with her tummy she said baby has a high pitched cry i said yes she has reflux and colic ow ok she said i will give her losec . Now my child could of been given that tablet for reflux from day one she could of been on infitrini, abedec, and galfer (iron) from day one but now 17 weeks on this is when they give her all the stuff she should of got when she was born . Now iv 4 weeks to pray that she gains loads of weight otherwise the child will be used as a pin cousion for bloods theyr fault they didnt do them when they had the concern she has no growth problem the baby needs that boost with infitrini and abdec and iron thats all shes drinking loads at the start which i believe its the abedec thats made her have more of a apatite but shes slacking off on it now and worried sike . Me and my child has been through hell and back and i feel as if its my fault thats the way theyr making me feel iv only ever done what theyv told me to do iv never missed a appointment but im so angry at the fact im getting different doctors that tell me its all fine then anouther doc saying different its so overwhelming half of my comment dont relate this post but i just need to vent out any advice pls feel free to comment back thanks

I'm in the same position tomorrow I'm going to pick his prescription, he's a premature born at 24+5 he's barely finishing 60ml in a hour I've changed teats and bottles, I'm expressing as well so it's a hell of a job I ended up throw it cuz he won't feed. His weight dropped every week. I'm hoping with this milk tomorrow will work and see a gain. If this doesn't work he's going to be tube feed and this is something that I really don't wanna do. Does anyone knows how long will it take to gain weight ?
