Pregnancy

Will subsequent pgs bring more stretch marks etc?

Hi, would like some advice from mums of two or more.

I accept each pg can be different and I run the risk of multiples but was wondering if you could tell me if your pgs were similar and if each pg did similar things to your body?

I have two DS, 20 months apart and would love to try for a third next year. I feel very lucky in that I have not had any stretch marks. I do have the damage from a third degree tear with my first and a CS scar from my second but, other than my tummy skin feeling a little looser I have remained pretty much the same.

Have others found it is the same or with similar pgs did you end up with different effects on your body? Is it possible to get stretch marks on a third baby having avoided it with two large full term babies?

I know it is a vain question - it would not deter me from having another child I just want to be prepared!

I got pregnant with my first DC at just 16, my stretch marks were horrendous! I looked like Freddy Cruger has been at me!

11 years later I had my second, no new stretch marks, some of the old ones grew a bit.

4 years after that I had my third, absolutely huge, really tight, stretched to the limit bump and not a single stretch mark appeared!

I think going by your first two, more than likely you won't get any now, lucky thing!

IF you put on more weight in your future pregnancy than you did with the other 2, I'd say yes, you could get stretch marks, amazing you have none after 2 large babies - luck you!

should also mention - lots with my ds1 (9lb, 5 oz), but no (or very few) new ones with subsequent 3 1/2 pregnancies - big babies, probably this new one will be big too, but the stretching had already been done by DS1!

I feel very lucky! Two babies over 9lbs and gained and lost 3 stone with each so I think I am convinced I am tempting fate with a third!

Got loads with dd1- am another Freddy Kruger victim.

No new ones with dd2 and so far (36+3 with dc3) no new ones this time.

My sister and Mum have had 3 and 2 dcs and didn't get a single one even though my skin is the olive easy-tan skin they had both always envied!

My Mum asked me 'How did you manage to get such awful stretch marks?' oh yeah mum I ticked the 'scar me for life' box on the maternity notes...

Hmmm, I am also jealous of your nice easy tan complexion! I have no stretch marks but I am as pale and pasty as can be - the general joke in the family is that I am almost transparent!!

Hope my third turns out to be similar too.

I got nasty ones the first time around, but then iled myself slippery the second time and they got no worse. I'd say, if you're worried, just oil and cream as much as you can manage! It might just work!

Well, I got hideous stretch marks with my first, but no new ones with my second, despite him being almost a pound heavier and 6 cms taller than his sister. I'd say if you've got away with it so far then you're one of the lucky ones

I suspect also that SandyBits is right- if you didn't get them last time, you're probably safe!
btw, if you are going to take Lizrob's advice and oil yourself just in case, have a go at Phytaoil as an alternative to Bio oil. I've switched and find it a better option IMHO.

My mum had three and doesn't have a single stretchmark! I have very few faint ones myself but still

I got loads from about 30weeks with DD (my first) now 35+4 with my second and in the last couple of days i have noticed some new ones on the top of my bump. My bump is a very different shape this time though.

My mum had dreadful stretchmarks for years after having me and my 2 sisters, but then had a big break, all stretch marks gone, had her last at 42 and no stretchmarks at all.

10 years ago when i had my dd i got ugly thick (some nearly an inch wide) and long (way over my belly button) stretch marks. I am now 31 weeks pregnant and i'm huge (much bigger than with dd) due to a mulitple pregnancy and i haven't got any new ones. I'm very shocked; i'm still half waiting for them to come though. I have used bio oil this time though, although not religiously.
