Epileptic and contemplating a 2nd pregnancy - am I mad?

Hi I am epileptic and have a 19mo daughter. During my first pregnancy my epilepsy was terrible, and I had many seizures in my sleep. Thankfully, I only fit when I'm asleep in bed, and so the seizures caused no harm to the baby. I realise I was extremely lucky that dd has no serious health problems, as she was exposed to several anti-epileptics whilst I was pregnant.

The prob is we would really love another baby. As soon as I'd given birth my epilepsy went back to being totally controlled and I just dont know whether to take the risk again.

Has anyone got any experiences with a 2nd or 3rd pregnancy whilst suffering with epilepsy? Were your pregnancies the same? I guess I am hoping that this time I could have a wonderful pregnancy with no seizures...

I'd be grateful to hear your experiences, don't really want to talk to family about it incase we decide not to have any more.

Thanks.

One of my close friends is pregnant with her 2nd baby and is epileptic. Her 1st pregnancy was much like yours, but she has been given different drugs this time round and has not had a single fit. She is now 22 weeks pregnant. Hope this helps a little.

Wow that is fantastic news! Congratulations to her. I guess I need to have another talk to a neuro consultant and see what I can do differently this time.

It's so good to hear a positive story though so thank you very much!

Is she a mumsnetter too?
