That's it really! And are the vibating ones as good as everyone says?

I have the cheapest thing my mother could find in Mothercare. No batteries, bells or whistles. Done my 2 dc and is currently being used by a friend, I doubt the fancy ones are worth it!

I got mine second hand but it was a mammas and pappas one, I removed the material bit and washed it otherwise perfect.

I never used the vibrating bit as I didn't want my baby to need it to get to sleep/be soothed.

My little boy spent most of his time in it in the day as I wanted to settle him into sleeping at night in the cot before I put him there in the day.

He loved it, had 3 teddies on the bar over him so he was entertained as well as being able to gently bounce him to sleep. He hated being flat when awake, so it was perfect until he was too heavy and his bottom touched the floor when inside!

Plus I carried it with me when I visited friends so he could sit in it as I didn't have a carry system.

Yep, cheapo Mothercare one here too - currently being used by DS4 !

I detest all the vibrating/jingling/rotating toy ones, gah!

But realise that may just be me

We had an electric baby swing on loan for screamer DS1 - it did nothing for him, I think just wound him up more TBH.

I liked the BabyDan one - it can be used as a wee chair for little ones up to about 2 years.

Aah, so if you already have a baby, take it out and try begging/borrowing a go in somebody else's chair to see what s/he likes.

My dd hated them all with a passion and wouldn't sit in a reclining position for 30 seconds even.

Just wondered if you were pg and thinking of investing because it's worth finding out if your baby's that way inclined first.

Once dd was bigger the bumbo was a brilliant investment. Except she outgrew it in seconds.

This is like mine but mine is an older model. I bought it on Ebay for £13 so have a look!

My dd had a Fisher Price Kick and Play Bouncer which I was a little dubious of. But it was an absolute godsend.

I have reported your post Kai. There is an area for selling items and you have to subscribe in order to sell. Please don't litter the rest of the boards with adverts.

I thoroughly recommend Baby Bjorn Expensive, but are really excellent. DD loved hers - she used to be so happy sitting in it, kicking away. Now it's ready for DD2's imminent arrival.

I'm not convinced it's worth spending much. DD hated the toys on the bar on front until she was too old to sit in it and was absolutely terrified of the vibrate setting. It'a Mothercare one. Otherwise, quite a useful thing.

And I only paid £3.70 for mine on ebay. It was in perfect condition, washable fabric etc.

Is the Baby Bjorn really much better than all the others?

Oh Baby Bjorn - that's what I meant! Blimey - they have gone up in price! Go to e-bay - the cover comes off and washes nicely anyway.

I think that basic ones are good too - vibration seems to calm some babies but I have heard something (vague, sorry, it was ages ago) about the vibration possibly being bad for babies and causing susceptibility to RSI in later life, which put me off the idea.

I would look for one with a seated position for baby - obviously lying back, but with a dip for their bum rather than them being suspended by the crotch as these are more comfy for babies.

TBH I just got mine for £2.50 from an NCT nearly new sale! It lasted DS until he could sit up, I washed it a couple of times, it was fine. No bells and whistles at all. I attached a toy to the front of it at one point which is designed to go across the front of a buggy and he liked that, it was good that I could take it on and off too and he now uses it on his pushchair.

They really have gone up in price haven't they?! When I got ours nearly 3 years ago, I'm sure it was about 50 quid. Agree, eBay is the way to go.

BabyBjorn one is fabulous - I got it for our 3rd when our cheapy mothercare one collapsed, and it is SO good - they can actually bounce it, whereas the previous one never really bounced.

we have mothercare one which cost about £15. Is very basic, but seems to do the trick.

cheapo mothercare one has done 2 DC and will be dusted off for DC3 soon. Agree that by the time big enough to use the toys and kick etc they have outgrown the chair. also if they get too stimultaed then they either get upset or depend on it which is, in the classic phrase you only really hear in re child rearing "a rod for your own back".

Re Bumbos - there is a thriving pass the parcel on Bumbos - i think about 4 people in south London bought one, everyone's child either hates it or grows out of it in about 2 months, and so they get passed on.

Save your money. Older children seem to cost even more so you'll need it!

I got none for dd as the flat was too small and deeply regretted it as due to reflux she couldn't stand lying flat, had to be propped up so she ended up spending far too much time in the car seat

then for ds1 i bought the cheapest one in smyths but it took him a while to get big enough to sit in it and he grew out of it very quickly, we gave iot away when we moved and i decided on this fisher price for ds2 and it was an absolutely fantastic buy.

he slept in it for daytime naps from day one, and in the evenings too as i liked to keep him close and it reclines really well. he could happily kick about in it for ages at a time which was a godsend with a hyper 2 and 4 year old running around inhibiting how often i could put him down on a mat on the floor

Loved loved loved this bouncing chair (after being so diappointed with some of the cheapo ones). Bit expensive but you can pick them up second hand on ebay.

Used ours with two DS's up until they were 4yo and now about to use again for DC3-to-be.

My DS absolutly adored his Fisher Price bouncer. We bought him a Mamas & Papas bouncer originally but he hated it, it sat him up a bit too far IYSWIM. so we swapped it for this. It's only about twenty quid. Seemed really comfy for him, he'd happily sleep for hours in it. It has an attached blanket too which was handy and it washed very well.

I can thoroughly recommend the Fisher Price infant to toddler rocker

Personally I found the vibrate function an absolute godsend (but then I did have twins so I used it a fair bit). DTs are still using these chairs and they are 3 next week. We have certainly got our money's worth out of them. Covers are easy to remove and wash (and believe me that has happened often).
