Pregnancy

Has anyone else lost weight in pregnancy? I'm weirded out at why my fat is dropping off!

I just found my pregnancy notes which I had lost and saw that I was 82kg at 14 weeks pregnant.
At 32 weeks pregnant I was 74kg, at 34 weeks pregnant I was 72kg.

I'm in shock at how much I've lost, I'm 5ft8, I haven't had such slim arms, legs and hips in years!

What is up with me :s doctor has tested me for everything known to man and is doing scans on baby to check he's growing too, another one due next week, he seems fine though so far

Yes, I did too. Ended up thinner but not lighter, was 4 lb heavier at due date than pre pregnancy weight, and a full stone under pre pregnancy weight by 10/14 days after the birth each time. Both babies were normal weights, I was very slim but with a big bump both times.

No idea why though, I eat well, and was a comfy size 14 so not emaciated by any means. It took about 9 months for it to creep back on!

I did but had gestational diabetes, plus had to follow a strict diet from 28 weeks. If you have been tested for that and results are negative. I imagine that because your metabolism speeds up/is more efficient during pregnancy, maybe you are just eating a sensible diet and your body is burning off excess stores?? If your baby is growing fine I wouldn't worry, and don't do what I did, which is to immediately put all the weight back on when the baby was born .

Im losing weight and at this rate will probbaly be about 2 stone lighter after I give birth!..but..I had hyperemesis..and then diabetes from 15 weeks..Im on insulin 4 times a day and the boring diabetes diet means no chance of gaining weight!

Btw I was 5kg lighter when at term than at the booking appointment, baby/fluid and all . I was so much slimmer when he was out it was unbelievable. I had a smaller belly 1 day postnatal than I have now

Oh yes SingForJoy, I was slimmer with a one month old baby than I am now, 14mo and still breastfeeding too.

I might just have to start eating a little less

I lost more with my first one that I have so far as my morning sickness hasn't been as bad. I know that although my meals are very healthy I do eat a lot of junk in the evening which I just haven't felt like. I have totally gone off everything sweet and chocolate was my big downfall!

With my first even when morning sickness seemed to stop I still just didn't have the appetite I had before and especially not for junk food. Was 98Kg when I got pregnant, was 83Kg at lowest while pregnant, 92Kg at full term and 74Kg 2 weeks after birth. Put some weight back on with every breast feed I dropped and when I stopped totally when he was 15 months I was back to 95Kg :-(. Have lost 7Kg this time so far but it's not a bad thing, as I'm not eating lots of junk food and smaller portions for dinner.

Don't worry I think it happens to a lot of people, enjoy your pregnancy and your new thinner body!

I didn't put on any weight during pregnancy, so once ds was born I had lost about 2 stone. No particular problems, I just ate less all the way through.

There may be a lesson in there somewhere....

He, and I were both fine, despite my being an overweight, 41 year old first time mum.

During each of my 3 pregnancies I lost an average of a couple of stones.

All down to morning (huh all day) sickness though, so fully explained in my case.

In fact I was a size 14 when I became pregnant with our last baby and a size 10 when I gave birth. I was in hospital for the last 5 weeks of that pregnancy because of the galloping weight loss.

Each baby was absolutely fine though

i lost alot of weight during the early weeks of MS and im still under my pre-pregnancy weight now at 23 weeks. i seem to be putting on a lb every so often but then when i weight myself ive lost more than ive gained so its like up 3lbs and down 5lbs.
but ive a big bump now too and when everyone comments i say "oh its all baby".

i was by no means small before baby and im still not eating much junk food as ive no appetite for it so im thinking my body is just re-adjusting my weight to what it should have been. fingers crossed it all stays off after baby too

I'm 20 weeks and yo-yoing.

I was pretty thin before getting pg, but lost about 5lb in the first trimester. I'd gained about 7lb since, but now lost 4lb again. I'm still lighter than before I was pg.

Also, still haven't felt the baby move... but that's a whole other anxiety train.

I don't know if i actually lost weight but the weight dropped off me iyswim. You could just see i was losing weight, my face, bum, legs extra. Quite funny really cause people at work (Massive building) that didn't know i was pg would be quite shoked when i turned round

No probs, in fact midwife looked a bit shocked when i said i was worried i wasn't gaining weight and asked me if i want too!

Maybe losing weight during pregnancy is our body's way of looking out for us if we had any excess fat originally, I know I was on the upper end of average. My BMI was 27 I think, now it's 23.

So happy it seems normal for other mums too!

However EarthMotherImNot did you have to stay in hospital just because of the weight loss?
I'm under a consultant and having extra scans to check baby because of weight loss.
I might enjoy a little holiday on a ward with my dinner being served and no housework

J/K I need DS with me

Yes I got that too, it's quite shocking to look at your thighs and suddenly notice the bulges are gone and I have no 'love handles' now eitherm, people have said 'wow you have high cheekbones' as they can now be seen..

I'm happy if I lose 2 stone after birth like last time, I could be 9 stone for the first time in years!
Doctors do act worried though don't they!

anifergirl
Don't worry about movement yet you could have your placenta at the front which can stop you feeling baby early on, I do and didnt feel mine untill about 23 weeks.

mummyof2 Yes they were becoming concerned about how much weight I was losing even though I kept on saying I had been the same with my other two pregnancies.

While I was in hospital, they reasoned that I would be forced to rest therefore wouldn't be running around after Dh and two small children.

In reality they used to let me out (for good behaviour lol) each weekend when I used to run around like a lunatic filling the freezer and catching up on the laundry etc so it was self defeating I suppose.

It became quite scary in the last couple of weeks because every scan said the baby would be very small, in fact a scan the day she was born estimated around 3-4 lbs.

She weighed in at 6lbs 6ozs after being induced the next morning

I don't know if it's relevant or not but as I've been induced, ie waters broken, each time it was noticable that I had very little water so to speak, nothing more than a trickle really!

I weighed myself on the day DD was born and i was 7lbs LIGHTER than the day I got pg

Ah - this is so comforting to read. I lost 10kg in the first four months of pregnancy. I've put on a couple since then, but I'm not intending to put any more on as I was rather overweight to begin with. Really I just haven't felt like eating at all whilst pregnant - although I can usually manage to eat fruit OK. All of this as a compulsive / disordered eater is quite a novelty. I hope I can keep it up once LO has arrived.

Interesting...
I have to see consultant about it again next week and have another growth scan for baby.
I'm relieved to know how innacuate growth scans are from people on mumsnet, because at the last one at 32 weeks they said my baby was 5lb and could be around 10lb at full term.
They also said I had a low/average ammount of amneotic fluid,
I'm also now measuring 31 weeks at 35 weeks,
small tummy, big baby, (apparently) very strange..

Did you all get extra blood tests because of weight loss?
They're testing me for hepatitus a, b and c now, amongst other alien names, which sounds a bit scary..
They reckon I must have a virus which is causing my sickly bad appetite and tiredness
shrug
But they assured me I 'don't look yellow so it's probably okay'
Huh?
Scary..

Yes, I was the same with both my pregnancy's. I have polycystic ovaries which can put weight on. My G.P says that some women find these can go into remission during pregnancy, so just assumed it was that and enjoyed the compliments!

Was also tested for gestational diabetes and babies were 10lbs 3ozs and 9lbs 91/2 , however all was clear. I think because my babies were so big, I felt full all the time and did not eat as much. However did start losing weight early on in the pregnancy.

Anyway, if baby growing well, just enjoy it!
