Hi

I am a newbie to this website and I am PG for the first time. Very excited and totally overwhelmed with information!!

I am 8 weeks today and I have been totally exhausted for the last 4-5 weeks and it only seems to be getting worse, I can't concentrate at work, I am getting clumsy and all I want to do is sleep!!!

I know that after 12 weeks this should improve but in the meantime any advice on "pick me ups" from anyone would be much appreciated!!

Congratulations!

It will get better after 12 weeks, but that seems like a long time off at the moment I bet.

My advice would be to keep busy during the day to keep your mind off the tiredness. Go to bed early. Really really early. I'm talking crawl in from work and go straight to bed early.

2nd trimester you will be buzzing with energy, but for now your body is concentrating on growing your baby so go with it.

Sleep, lots. Its the only pick me up.
Have your iron levels checked in case anemic but can just be that damn first trimester.

Pull a sickie and sleep if you have to. Your body is very busy making complicted things like brains and nervous systems...its hard

It really does seem a long way off! I am contemplating having a snooze at my desk at the moment!!

Early nights and lots of sleep it is!!

There is no tiredness like 1st trimester tiredness imo. In fact, it's more than tiredness, it's sheer bloody exhaustion.

I'm 8wks this week with my 4th pregnancy and I'm so tired all the time. My youngest is 22 months so I don't get much of a chance to rest but do go to bed very early and try and get a daytime nap at weekends when DH is around.

During my last pregancy I was working full-time and it was worse - I just couldn't keep my eyes open after lunch. I would get home and fall straight into bed.

There really isn't much you can do - it will pass and until then you have to listen to your body and rest whenever you can. Can you book a couple of days leave and catch up on some sleep?

I have just taken 2 weeks off for a holiday that had been planned for over a year! It was to New York which, while wonderful, was not relaxing! So not much of a chance for more time off!

I am in my own office though so I can shut the door and get 10-15 mins here and there which I guess is a bonus! Roll on the next 5 weeks or so!

I have never experienced anything like it!!!

I have exactly the same thing. I didn't have it last time, but this time I can barely keep my eyes open. The sickness is also rubbish, but the tiredness is knocking me for six. I am asleep by 9.30 every evening and sleep though until 7 ( unless I REALLY need to pee). Sadly I am 12+5 and there is no sign of improvement yet. Hoping that things will get better in the next couple of weeks.

I'm pg with my 2nd, 5 wks tomorrow and it is so exhausting isn't it? I was tired the whole way through my last successful pregnancy. Unfortunately for some pg women, the tiredness doesn't let up. I'm in that minority.

Hope your exhaustion lifts though!

I was actually shocked at how tired I was between about 8 and 12 weeks. Couldnt believe it. Then went for 12 week scan and saw this beautiful little row of vertebrae and the weeny organs the sonographer was ticking off and thought all that tiredness made sense.

I think its not being able to tell people that makes it so unbearable, I was cancellingthings left right and centre. Someone later said: I just thought you didnt like me cos I kept backing out of coffees, drinks you name it

I think you're right Firsttimer7259, its all the making excuses for being too tired to go out etc! It will all be worth it!!

I have had the pleasure of morning sickness for the first time today as well which was an experience!!! I have had to tell everyone at work I have a stomach bug!!

Poor you, I hated the first trimester, I actually used to get home and cry with exhaustion. All I wanted to do was sleep, I nearly sold my beloved pony because I couldn't cope looking after him and my poor dogs didn't get walked for about a month!

However I got to about 14 weeks and it was very odd, I just sort of woke back up again, it was like coming back to life. Just hang in there, you will get through it, I promise.

Am with you all on this - didn't have tiredness with first pregnancy so it's a bit of a shock to be dealing with that, plus constant sickness plus active toddler!

I gave up on the excuses though and told everyone at work this week (even though not quite 8 weeks yet). I just couldn't bear them all thinking that I was a lazy slacker and also know I will feel more able to take it easy knowing that they know iyswim.
