Date scan - has anyone managed to get one of these in the evening?

I have an appointment sent to me for a date scan and nuchal scan during the day in a week or so. However I could really do with this being in the evening because I work. Has anyone managed to get an evening appointment for a scan or I am living in dreamland? I guess I will just need to stop being so impatient.

We don't do them in the evening. Don't forget you are entitled to time off for antenatal appointments from work.

no, but I never asked...

you are entitled (by law, not just 'cos I say so) to paid time off work for antenatal appointments, which includes scans

you might if you go to a private clinic. otherwise no not usually. you are entitled to time off work for the scan.

thanks for all answers which are really useful. I went private with my first baby but the scan unit at my hospital has recently started to offer nuchal scan at the same time as date scan so I was going to wait for that. Cannot face taking time off as only been back from maternity just under 6 months and dreading telling the boss when the time comes let alone asking for the odd morning off before then. Well I will just have to get on with it i spose.
(Whether it makes financial sense to pay for 2x childcare based on my salary will be a whole other thing to worry about when the time comes, I have not started to do the maths on that one...)

I had mine done in the evening, though not that late - think it was about 7ish - at Addenbrookes. Why don't you call the hospital.

When I was pregnant with dd1 I was sent a saturday appointment for my first scan - John Radcliffe hospital, Oxford, this was without even asking for something special so it would be worth asking the question.(Couldn't make it as it just so happened to also be my wedding day!!)

hi redblue, i'm not sure whether they would at hospital or not but i had my date scan at 9pm, i found it all quite difficult with times as my other half works afternoons and evenings (normally until 10/11pm) and he doesn't particularly like being up early for that reason.

I went private for my date scan but it was the same place i had my nuchal which was under the NHS. My following scans were at hospital.

Not sure if that helps or not but it proves there are some places that will work late into the evenings...may just take a bit of finding??

Good luck

I just had a scan last night at 8.15 in an NHS hospital. I did have an original dating scan during the day but they couldn't get decent images as the baby wouldn't stop wriggling about so I was asked to come back a couple of days later in the evening. Ask your MW they'll be able to tell you if they can give you a late appointment. I know that legally you can take the time off but if you're like me you won't have said anything to your work yet. I waited until after my 1st scan before telling my work, didn't want them to know before that.
