I went for my 32 week scan on Monday and was told the baby is 45cm and just over 5lb . By my calculations he shouldn't weigh that much until about 35 weeks! I'm normal height and build (5ft5 and 60KG pre-pregnancy)and haven't got GD or put excessive weight on, so please reassure me they can be wrong and i'm not neccesarily going to give birth to a massive baby!! Thanks!

I don't think they can tell weight that accurately from scans.

Was there a reason for a 32wk scan - they don't normally do one at that time (not in my area anyway)?

I wouldn't worry - babies grow at different rates and there's nothing wrong with having a big baby!!!

Thaks for your reply! I live in France and here you get 3 scans. The doctor didn't seem too bothered but said to stop eating sugar! I have been trying to eat really well but the odd cake has slipped through
My DP was 10lb so perhaps that has something to do with it!

It sounds normal for you. Try not to worry - I am sure they will keep an eye on you. It doesn't sound abnormally large to me.

They put on a about half a pound a week so if he goes full term he should be around 9lb which isn't that excessive.

Ds was 5lb at 33 weeks, he eventually weighed in at 6.14 but was born early at 37 weeks.

My DD was 9.5lb when born at 38 weeks - so she'd presumably have been more than 5lb at 32 weeks. I wouldn't worry about it. Anyway, massive babies are great (DD was a titch compared to DS, who was a week late!)!

I'm currently having regular growth scans as my DS1 was 10.14.at 40weeks plus 1 day. Healthy pregnancy, no Diabetes, just a big baby. Unfortunately, I ended up having an emergency Csection with him but all was well.

With this pregnancy, I was measured and scanned at 28 weeks and the baby was 3.1 (computer calculation on posh ultrasound machine). This means this one will be at least 9lb. I have been assured that larger babies find their way out faster. I am sure you will be fine. I'm actually hoping for a 9 pounder this time so that I can go "au naturel" and skip the surgery!
