Telling everyone at 11 weeks

Just a quick question - I had my first scan today and was told that I measured 11 weeks and 1 day. I thought it was 12 weeks since my last period but to be fair I can't actually remember the date (also I have 5 week cycle, should I have told the scanning lady that?).

Anyway - we saw the baby swimming around and the heartbeat so I assume all is fine so far. So is there less risk of anything going wrong now? Should I tell everyone and get excited? Or should I wait another week (till 12 weeks)?

Sorry that is a bit more than one question!!

No reason to wait until 12 weeks if you've had your "12 week" scan and everything is fine.

Congratulations, now get on the phone!

I told my mum and best friend at 8 weeks (as was terribly sick and needed someone to help me out a bit, and poor DP was the only one getting the brunt of all my moaning..), then the rest of our families and other close friends when I got back from my 12-week scan. Thought I was 12+4 on that day but scan lady said 12 weeks exactly, so I went with that.
It's really lovely telling people, I enjoyed that time so much.

My sister's theory is only tell the people you could tell if something went wrong. But at 11 weeks, little can/would so, go and enjoy telling people!! We're planning on TTC soon and I'm already looking forward to it.

Oh and, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Thanks guys! I have told close friends and family but I was just worried about work and other friends. Anyway - I am so excited now I've seen the little thing that I won't be able to keep it in anymore!

See if/when I get pregnant, DH has already said we won't tell MIL until after the 12 weeks at least even though he's also said we can tell my parents and friends first. The reason? Even if she manages not to tell, her friends will guess as she'll be so excited!!

I am 10+4 and I've told a few people as I had dating scan when I had a MC scare at 9 weeks. Apparently you have a 98% chance of it being successful and going to full term if they find a heart beat at 9 weeks, so your chances will be more than 98%. Still feel weird telling people as I'm not at the 12 week mark. Do what feels right - at the mo I don't "enjoy" telling people as still worried it won't be OK, but I think that's the MC scare.

Congratulations.

Im with randomtask's sisters theory.
If you (and at 11 weeks it's highly unlikley) lost the baby, would you never tell your parents and close friends?
You probably would so what's the difference.
I can't keep secrets and I told close family and friends the day of and day after finding out at under 6 weeks with first. I told work at 8 weeks because I kept running to the loo to be sick !
This time I knew at 4.5 weeks and told my mum 1 whole week later, I nearly burst trying to keep that secret for a week!!
I then managed to keep quiet for a further 2 weeks or more with everyone else. People who know me were impressed with that !

whensmydayoff. I am 12 weeks today and have only told 2 friends. I am waiting till wednesday to tell family and that's if I have a good nuchal. If it's bad or there's a mmc then I will be pleased that I haven't told anyone as I definately wouldn't share a m/c or any problems with family or friends at the time, maybe later but certainly not at the time.

I am sure that if you have had a good 11 weeks scan you'll be fine

Didn't tell anyone when I had my mc. With DS I didn't tell anyone til 14-16 weeks. I am now 11 weeks (had a scan at 6+5) and have a nuchal scan on Thurs - maybe I'll tell after that if things are OK.

if you have a 5 week cycle then you should be a week behind based on dates which is consistent with results of scan.

My last pg I started to tell everyone after my 22 weeks scan! Lots of people were shocked and quite a few thought I had put on weight

I had a miscarriage at 12+5 weeks after having a perfect scan at 10 weeks (I guess I must represent the 2% in the statistics). However, we told friends and family after the 10 week scan, thinking everything was OK. In the end, I was glad I'd told everyone, as it meant I had lots of support when it all went wrong.

So, I say if you feel it's time to tell everyone, then tell everyone. This time I waited till 12+5 to tell, but only because I was scared of jinxing things.

Thanks all, it's interesting to hear what everyone else did/ will do. I am now 11 weeks and 6 days and have told all my friends outside work. I haven't told anyone at work yet (I'm not really that close to anyone) - am tempted to leave it now till I start showing!
