i am overdue, with what i was told all along was a huge baby, they did regular scans and told me it would average 10lb on due date. went to see midwife on thu who did stretch and sweep, she was shocked to find i was 2cm dilated already which she said was very unusual for first time mum. im a large girl and having a large baby which is not making any attempt to get a move on. im getting really fed up now. really swollen, feet look terrible, hands are very painful.
midwife had booked induction for july 23rd!!!
does anyone think it would be out of order
to contact my consultant and beg her to induce me next week? she is really nice and seems approachable or should i just sit tight and hope the baby doesnt grow too much more.

if you are already 2cm then I don't think you're likely to make it to the 23rd!

First time inductions are not pleasant so I'd go for some more stretch and sweeps and some sex tbh.

Not out of order at all to speak to your consultant about induction.
I reckon you'll go on your own before long though... (you sound "right-at-the-end-fed-up" to me)

I was booked in for an induction when i was 2 days over. at the same time had a sweep and was about 1cm dilated. I had DS two days after the sweep, no need for the induction. Maybe your midwife is just being organised in booking you in. If you're already dilated doubt you'll make it another 12 days

i wouldn't worry too much about what the scans say. they are notoriously unreliable.

my friend's 10lb+ baby was born a couple of days over his due date at 8lb.

plenty of people have big babies and live to tell the tale. personally I feel that it's best to leave baby to come in his/her own time.
term is classed as 37-42 weeks, so technically you anre't overdue at all!

I second car girl - I went 2 weeks overdue with my first, and was basically told I had to either go in every day for monitoring (the hospital was over an hour away) or be induced. I was fed up, could't face the travel, so chose the latter.

No need for gory details, but induction definitely not fun - I was left with the distinct impression that DD just didn't feel she was ready to make an appearance, and my labour experience definitely bore that out (no pun intended ). I think with hindsight I'd have pushed back a bit - tried to get monitored at somewhere a bit more local and just hung on in there.

2 other things to bear in mind - firstly is that unless you had a very early scan, dating can easily be a couple of weeks off, so you may not actually physically be overdue (even though mathmatically you are).

Secondly that sizings are often bollocks - I asked whether mine was a huge baby as I felt enormous and was told no, average, if anything a little on the small side. So imagine my shock when I (finally) delivered a 9lb12oz whopper - I'm only 5ft 1 and (was) a size 10... Which deosn't meant o say that yours will be even bigger - just that they really can't tell...

I know (trust me, I KNOW) how fed up you are - how yu're probably getting loads of phone calls to ask if you've had the baby yet ('cause, like, you'd keep it a secret if you had, right?) you feel liek you're going to explode at the seams and you've just had enough already, but I really think it's worth hanging in there if you can... I think it'll lead to a much nicer experience in the long run.

Hang in there, enjoy your last few days of rest and sleep, and try some of those 'home remedies'. Honestly, I don't think any of them make a blind bit of difference, but it gives you something to do... and some can be quite fun. I'd give the castor oil a big skip though... eurghhhhh...

Good luck - you'll get there - so far as I know, no-one's actually ever been pregnant forever, right?

And you're 2cm! Yay! It took me nearly 24 hous of labour to get to 2cms...

thanks to you all for your support, going to wait until tuesday and ask for another sweep then see consultant on friday and ask her for some advice. i can easily have daily monitoring as im only 4 miles from the hospital so as long as baby is ok then maybe i should just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, but dont get me wrong I'm STILL FED UP!!! {grin}
