Pregnancy

Sad - pregnant and fat but need to buy a wedding dress. Don't know where to start

I'm getting married in exactly four weeks today and I need to get a wedding dress - I will be 14 weeks pregnant and I am already a size 16 so dreading what size I will be on the day!

I also have a small budget of about 150 quid and afterwards we will be going to an Indian restaurant with family so not sure that a big white dress is a good idea. I'm not that keen on white anyway because I think it will make me look even bigger. I'm happy with a pretty patterned dress but so far have found nothing that suits me. I'm quite fair so dark colours aren't great.

I would really appreciate some help or perhaps some ideas of shops that sell nice dresses.

Thanks!

I got my wedding dress in Monsoon for £100....just a full length summery evening dress really, but it was lovely. And I was larger than you when I got married.

Congratulations and good luck x

Congratulations! I was 7m pregnant and also went for an Indian meal afterwards. I got an empire line dress from Monsoon and the bump fitted under it nicely as it was a full skirt. Not officially maternity but did the job well.

How about something like this?

x-post Norty, great minds!

Aaaw, Thingiebob you'll have a great day. Indian restaurant with family sounds like a lovely wedding and you won't be any fatter than you are now. Not sure if you would like it, but found this on monsoon website, not actually bridal but thought it looked quite different and special. Think they go up to size 18. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy / forthcoming wedding!

well there you go - we all think Monsoon is the place to start

Will second/third/fourth Monsoon. Love their dresses but rarely have an excuse to wear them. (Once to be precise - my own wedding!). Also there are a fair number with an uneven hem line (if you see what I mean)so if your bump increases in size more than you anticipate, the fact that the front hem of the dress might lift slightly, won't show. The ones with floaty hems would probably also work well. Or perhaps I'm talking rubbish.... (no style on a daily basis, but scrubbed up OK when I got married)

just for the record, I agree with the other posters - I would have gone for a Monsoon dress had I not found mine on ebay (50 quid including veil and tiara - bargainous!) I was very lucky and it fit perfectly (although I had to change out of it after we'd eaten cos the seams were straining!)

I love empire lines - and obviously these work out well if you have a bit of a bump. Monsoon usually have a lovely stock of empire-style long dresses - both wedding-white and just pretty frocks for smart occassions.

Try M&S bridal too.

and this one

I could spend a fortune in this shop, but alas I am another one who has only ever had the one occasion to buy a lovely dress!

I do like Monsoon but not sure if they do my size - I'm looking for an 18 empire line dress in a pale colour.
Thank you all for your replies!

They do - and the sizes are generous.

Oh great! On the website the sizes seem quite small but I will go instore as I really like the patchwork wedding gown.

Ok, I'm now crying looking at the Monsoon website!

Wallis do some lovely dresses. I find them to be generous fit as well (I'm 16/18). I know this because they taunt me with emails every week and I'm 31 weeks with more arse than bump.

Ooh didn't think about Wallis!
I'm a bit shit at purchasing clothes at the best of times, so this wedding outfit thing is getting me down a bit.

Best wishes for your wedding Thingiebob! I have never been to Monsoon but your posters have really converted me. My fave is the pretty pink one that bohemian suggested first.

Have a glorious day. At 14 weeks you will probably have a bit more energy so it's perfect timing! x

I think all the suggested dresses are fab, and sooo pregnancy-friendly as well. Good luck for your big day!
