Anyone expecting twins?

mabbs123 · 09/06/2009 12:03

Hi, I went for my first scan last week and found out I was expecting twins.. omg what a shock that was! I swear I stopped breathing for a while LOL

I am 10+4 and cannot stop just falling asleep as soon as I get home from work.. I am totally shatterted all the time.. is anyone else going through this?

With my first pregnancy a few years ago I was fine.. maybe its just because I am getting older and more of a toll on my body ha ha!

Thank you!
Does your midwife think you are having twins? I had no idea..I just thought I was further gone that I thought as I seemed to be getter bigger quicker than last time.

Hope all goes well with your scan and everything is what you want!

Love the name by the way ;-)

hi mabbs, no i dont think she does although at my booking in appt she didnt ask about twin family background.

Im a twin and my DH mum a twin also so we are just playing the waiting game at the moment! I would not know if i am big or not as this is my first pregnancy so i have nothing to compare it to.

You must all be so excited!!

Sounds like it could be twins then! you will have to keep me posted.. we are excited now the shock has passed! we do not have twins in either of our families so looks like we have set the trend!

I am 28 weeks with boy/girl twins and am getting quite excited now was a massive shock at the scan lol

Be prepared for plenty of appointments and scans in the future
Do you know if they are identical or not?

iateallthecreameggsyummy Are you an identical or non identical twin?
Its only non identical twins that can run in families and even then it has to be on the mothers side as its the genetics of releasing more than one egg that are passed on. Are you hoping for twins? hope it swings the way you want it to

hi ready gosh a boy and a girl how lovely! Is this your first pregnancy or have you already got one?

As for twin history both identical but im still holding up hope will see what happens.

The scan shows 2 seperate sacs and 2 placentas which I have read could be either identical or not? unless the 20 week scan shows different sexes? you must be getting really big now.. has everything been ok for you?

I already have a nearly 3 year old so im gonna have my hands full lol
I hope you get to see two little heartbeats at your scan, obviously just because its not genetic to have twins doesnt mean you wont
I know someone who has a 5 year old, 3 year old boy/girl twins and 3 month old identical girls all concieved naturally so anything is possible

I have a 3 year old too.. I dreading her trying to pick the twins up( I have seen her trying to pick the cats up! lol!! )

I am terrified too, even though it is my second pregnancy I don't think it gets any less worrying! I am starting to feel a bit better this week but I have been awful for the past 4 weeks or so, I am really tired though!
Hope your sickness passes soon x

Thats what our 12 week scan showed mabbs123 and then we asked at the 20 week scan and obviously as they are boy/girl they are non identical

I am massive now and get a few concerned glances from staff when I go into shops lol.

I have had a very straight forward pregnancy so far and the only thing I suffer with is light headedness but I had some of that with my first pregnancy too! I find it worst when I have to lie on the bed for scan and examinations but alsong as you tell them they will raise the bed and stop whenever I need them to

I am looking forward to seeing my DS with the twins, he keeps telling me that one baby is his and the other is mine lol

I was terrified to start with and even to this day I am not 100% relaxed but I think that you are more aware of whats at risk 2nd time round whether its 1 or 10 lol

I had no morning sickness at all (didnt first time either) but did find I was beyond shattered for the first 13/14 weeks (dp thought I was a lazy sod till we found out it was twins lol)

How are you finding it so far?

Hi Mabs and all,
I am expecting twins, all being well. I am 10 weeks today and the tiredness is improving - I didn't have to nap at lunchtime today or yesterday, so that is a step forward. The tiredness has been horrendous, I have felt vaguely depressed with it because I haven't been able to do anything properly and have despaired that this is how it will be for the next 2+ years. I really hope that that is it with knackeredness until I hit the third trimester mark. I didn't really have tiredness with my other pregnancies, so I felt like I was just being a lazy arse and must have just been imagining it. It was like having ME (I imagine). Now it's starting to clear I realise it wasn't all in my imagination and I can be a normal functioning person really.

This will be child 3+4 for me, and we are terrified. We can neither of us believe we will have 4 children, we never imagined that in a million years. Everything frightens me...consultant lead care, possible complications in pregnancy, more stress around the birth & possible cs, possible premature babies, breast feeding two, looking after my toddler with two new babies in tow, having enough attention for my elder two...I could go on and on an on. I also feel like I will be a social pariah and noone will want to have us over or be with us because we will have this carnival of unruly children with us.

Sorry to be such a moaner. On a more positive note, when I had my scan last week I did feel very plesed they were both alright and was excited to see their little wiggling buds of arms and legs...they were my little babies then.

Readyfornumber2and3, I am glad to hear your pregnancy has been good so far, all I ever hear are horror stories about multiple pregnancies.

I think I am worried incase I have to spend ages in hospital before they are born and if they are really tiny..I am having loads of nightmares!

I can imagine alot of people thinking you are about to go into labour at any moment LOL!

I am just exhausted and sleeping loads.. can't get enough of it.. maybe I am just getting it whilst I can ha ha!

e3chick I have worried about everything you mention and every now and again I still do but I am taking each day as it comes and you wouldnt believe how excited other people get about twins so I wouldnt worry about being a social pariah as they will be fighting over you and them lol.

I have done alot of reading up and premature and twins really doeant go hand in hand as I thought, infact my consultant has said that my two should weigh in at at least 7lbs each the way they are growing
I am scared about having a cs too and want to do everything I can to avoid it!! I am willing to fight if necessary and will be refusing an epidural "just incase"

There is alot of information out there and the multiple births forum will help as obviously they have all been there and done it lol

Hi e3chick, I understand exactly what you mean about worrying about everything, i am the same - I think we will just have tesco.com round ha ha!
Its reassuring to know the tiredness will eventually wear off -its awful isn't it, I have never felt anything like it before!

I am sure all will be fine.. and we will soon get the hang of it, it'll be a piece of cake ( fingers crossed! )

I had pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy at 26 weeks and after a long stay in hospital had to have an emergency cs, the whole think was so upsetting and I would really try and avoid it if possible, it felt like all the joy was taken away from me, although my daughter was healthy I still felt like I had missed out on something.
Then there is the pain after for about six weeks, walking like an old lady clutching your stomach incase anyone come near you.. it is awful - not for me this time thank you ( I REALLY REALLY HOPE ! )

Hi all - I'm 19 + 4 with twins. First babies, so was a shock at the scan, but over the moon now. I've felt pretty rubbish all the way through with sickness and tiredness, nausea is getting better now, but still incredibly tired all the time. We've got our 20 week scan on Monday, so I'm starting to get nervous and just hope they are both still OK. Going to see if they will tell us whether they are boys/girls because I really want to know!

Sounds like sickness and tiredness is a lot worse than with just one baby then! I am starting to feel a little better now.. not needed to nod off at my desk at lunch time for the last couple of days ha ha!

Hope your scan goes well and good luck to everyone! stay in touch and let me know how it all goes! x

So is it normal to be completely knackered all the time with twins then? Am 20 weeks pregnant with identical twin girls, and find that I can only really manage one major undertaking a day and then I'm cabbaged! I work from home, which is really lucky, and I have lots of respect for all of you who have to actually go out to work and can't fit in a sneaky nap at lunchtime, but I'm concerned that maybe the tiredness is all in my head and it's just my natural laziness taking over!
