hi

with dd i never bought newborn she was tiny (6lbs12.5ozs) didnt gain weight very fast so everything looked enormous
with this one i have bought lots of newborn outfits and sleepsuits plus vests in there newborn size which goes up to 11lbs.
i also have bought two outfits from asda that go up to 9lbs
didnt want to get too many that only go up to 9lbs so that they have more wear out of them

It depends how big your baby is!!! And I don't think there's any way of predicting this.....
I had some newborn size clothes for DD when she was born but she grew out of them in 3 weeks! She was 8lb 7 when she was born though.

I've bought mostly 0-3 months stuff, with a few newborn vests and sleepsuits from next in their "up to 1 month" size which is 11lbs iirc.

this baby will be mostly in sleepsuits which look OK with cuffs rolled up and saggy legs when they are that small.

thankfully I've been gifted/loaned a load of stuff as well so there is lots of newborn stuff in amongst that.

If money is tight - and even if it isn't - there is no waste in having a baby look too small in the larger sizes, but they might not even fit the smaller sizes at all. My DS weighed in at 8lb 12oz and was long, so he never wore a stitch of the newborn size things I had. I am hoping that DC2 due in December will wear some of it but not much hope of that seeing how I am huge again.

i was assuming that this one would probably follow lack of weight gain and be the same size as dd as fussy eating runs in our genes.!!

dd was born @ 6lbs12.5ozs
@ 2 months was 9 lbs
wasnt 11lbs till she was 4 months old
0-3 month clothing goes up to 14lbs
she was 14lbs @ 9 months.
she is now 3 and is in 18-24 month clothes and only weighs 24lbs.

ok, dd was 6 lb 11 0z at birth and was swamped in her 0-3 clothes and i did feel a bit miffed ihadnt got any newborn size

so with ds i had 3/4 outfits newborn size before he was born and was given one or two more, he wore these and went into 0-3 at about 5/6 weeks old

I would just stick with the newborn stuff you have

I had newborn for both of mine. they were both over 9lb and stayed in it for a fair while.

I had newborn for all of mine (8lb-8lb6oz)- they were all in newborn for quite a while, 2-3 mths. dd2 is 6mths and is comfortably in 3-6mth stuff (and the odd 0-3mth sleepsuit).

My dd1 is like tink's dd- she is 2 and wears 9-12mth/12-18mth stuff but I am not at all tiny so it doesn't necessarily follow IFYSWIM.

When are you due?

DS1 wore tiny baby clothes, he was 6lb 12oz
DS2 was 8lb and wore newborn for a few weeks.

0-3 would have swampoed them both. Def go for newborn.

I had 0-3 clothes for both my girls. DD1 was 6lb 14 oz and DD2 was 6lb 1 oz, so 0-3 clothes were pretty huge on both of them initially (but especially on DD2). I had a couple of newborn sleepsuits I'd been lent though and I used those a bit. Luckily they both gained weight v quickly and seemed to be out of the 0-3 stuff before I knew it. I think newborn stuff is a bit of a waste of money as they do seem to be out of it really quickly and it doesn't really matter if they are a bit swamped for the first couple of weeks. If you can borrow some from a friend though it might be a good idea?

I bought newborn and 0 - 3 but dd was only 7lb 1oz so we got some early baby for the first week or so. I think its best to get a pack of early baby just in case especially as you had a little one before x

0-3 months was miles too big for DD, who weighed in a 7lb 3oz. Had to send DH out to buy newborn size, which she outgrew in 3 weeks.

This baby is predicted to be bigger, so I have bought 0-3 months size again, if they are too big, will send DH out to buy smaller sizes again!

hi tink,

do you know if tink 2 is x or y?

dd was early too and was far too small for most things,

i bought some tiny baby (up to 7lb) from next and then some new baby (up to 9lb) to get us though the first 4 weeks,

dd is 14 weeks now and 0-3 are still big on her

With DS - my only DC - I bought some white 0-3 month sleepsuits. Then someone told me these would be too big for all but the biggest newborns, so I bought some "New Baby" size ones.

DS was 7lbs 10oz and Mum had to go out and get some "Tiny" baby sleepsuits. She also went bonkers and bought pretty much everything else in Tiny baby size at Mothercare!

DS is 6 weeks on Sunday, and has just gone into 0-3 month stuff. Also grown out of his Moses basket - where did my baby go?

With all of my dd's I had to have them in early baby clothes. DD1 was heaveist at 6.4, DD2 5.14 and DD3 5.12.

Personally I think it would make sense to have some early baby clothes just in case.

I got mine from ebay, as they all seemed so expensive new.

Tink I am 5'2" as well and before DS I weighted 6 and a half stones....so the size of DS came as quite a shock to me My DH is very tall though so he must have got it from him.
