DH and I were intimate and afterwards I went to the loo and there was some blood, it wasn't alot, it was like if i held the tissue there then looked there was a spot, then again if i put the tissue back, about 4 times.

Since last night Ive had some pains, not the usual braxton hicks, but more intense, like very, very strong period pains.

Should I contact the midwife?

I know it sounds daft but Im having a home birth and don't want to jepordise that, i know from last time that they jump on ANY little thing that crops up and try and use it to stop the homebirth.

Baby is very active.

Am 27 weeks today.

Hi E

Used to be a midwife and can tell you that lots and lots of women come into labour ward with what is known as a "post coital bleed" . It's so common that it doesn't raise an eyebrow. Basically the neck of the womb is very vascular and soft during pregnancy and is prone to bleeding.

Having said that it is important to get it checked out. Usually they just check that the placenta is not low lying (a reason NOT to have a home birth). If the placenta is well clear of the neck of the womb then you can be certain this is just a post coital bleed and NOT a reason to ban a homebirth.

Thanks msd,

how do they check where the placenta is? Should I ring tomorrow or wait till Monday?

As someone who bled a lot in pregnancies, I would let them know. It sounds to me like nothing to worry about (bleeding a little after sex is reasonably usual, iirc). but the advice is always to let them know. Always better to have things checked out, I think.

Fwiw, I had a home birth planned with dd despite a few instances of bleeding. No-one seemed worried (although my mw was very, very pro HB)

Hi FP,

i had spotting with my other 2, but always at 6 weeks.

Never anything like this late on.

I haven't told anyone except DH. My mum would just worry.

if you had spotting with other pgs, cervical erosion defn a possibility - that was my dx...
Sod all they can do about it when your pg, and doesn't affect anything
