Having emergency scan, can I take my baby with me?

I know this sounds like a stupid question... I'm having an early scan (8 weeks) tomorrow as I've had bleeding; we haven't got anyone to leave our 11 month old with at short notice so will it be okay to take her with us to the scan? I know this sounds silly but in my old hospital children weren't allowed to come to scans. If she can't I will have to go alone and I really want DH with me in case it's bad news.
Does anyone know about this?

I doubt they'd turn you away just because you've got a baby with you. I know they often prefer them to be left at home so the sonographer can concentrate, but surely at 8 weeks it's just a wee bit of measuring, no looking in detail at organs etc?

i had to have a scan at 6 weeks. Ive taken my ds to every scan ive had and hes 2. They can hardly stop you when you're there esp as under the circumstances. If they had a 'no children policy' it would have been made known to you id have thought.

I always took my dc with me. If they were a baby or a toddler that I thought would run around then I kept them in the pushchair for the duration of the scan. Older toddlers were ok to sit on the chair and wait.
From what you have said it sounds like it might be different from hospital to hospital. Maybe phone your hospital to find out or just take your baby with you anyway. I would think it's unlikely that they would turn you away once you are there.
Hope all goes well.

had to take my 3yr old in to a scan with me earlier this month, as my appointment was on the same day dd3 was due to have surgery on her hand. they made a fuss of her once they realised why she was with me.

My DP and dd (16 months) came for my 12 week scan. There was no problem. In fact she got quite upset when they turned the lights off and bawled through the whole thing but they didnt mind. I did check with my midwife before we went and she said it was fine to take her.

Thanks for all your help. It was a different hospital from the one where I had DD and they were lovely; there was no problem with taking her in at all.
More importantly, the bleeding doesn't seem to have been symptomatic of a problem - had the bleeding in week 6 and am now week 8, and we saw lo's heartbeat, sac, yolk, etc, all as should be expected. What a relief. I know things can still go wrong but it has been a horrible 2 weeks of waiting and wondering.
