24 Weeks Pregnant- Head Down- Reassurance Please!

I am currently 24+2 and have been for a scan this afternoon (check-up after having severe pain a few weeks earlier).

As the scan started the sonographer said instantly that the head is down, and it was even obvious for me to see too.

She said everything looks perfectly normal and healthy and didnt mention anything else about the head being down at this stage.

My biggest concern is that DS was born at 29+5 and his head was down from around this stage. Were in Turkey on holiday until 9 September and dont see my own midwife until the day after.

I have had lower back ache and constant tightenings in my tummy for the past week now. Im also going to the toilet (for number 2) at least 2/3 times a day, although it isnt like diarrhoea (sp), but more solid- sorry TMI.

Is there anything I snould be worrying about at this stage? Doctor says all ok, but part of me not convinced. Surely 24 weeks is too early for head to be down?

They flip around all over the place at that stage as they still have loads of room especially if this is your second.

If you are getting a lot of BH with your history, give the maternity ward a ring and they can monitor baby for you and confirm if the contractions are worth worrying about.

I had some contractions (not BH) at 29 weeks but they settled down on their own. Still went to the L&D ward to be checked in case they didn't as the baby might have needed steriods. They were going to give them to me but the Dr was delayed and the tightening had stopped by the time Dr arrived.

About the head down - don't worry; my baby has been head down since 17 weeks and still in here at 37 in the same place - consultant obstetrician who did the scan and didn't mention it at all. Agree that can't hurt to call up for some reassurance on the other points though. Good luck.

your baby might well have been head down for the scan, but does not mean he/she not moving all over the place the rest of the tme!

if you have been having pains and tightenings i would give labour ward a call based on your history as that is more relevant than whether baby is head down or not IMO

both of mine were head down from 28 weeks but were born at term

DD was head down from the 20 week scan. Born at 38 weeks.

Good idea to get some reassurance from the delivery team.

There is a big difference between the head being down and the head being engaged. DD1 and DD2 both had their heads down at the 20 week scan and at every subsequent examination but I expect they were flipping around inbetween.

Its your history and your other symptoms that are slightly less common and more worrying. Maybe get your widwife to check you out before you go to Turkey?

Thanks for your replies- they have been reasurring and artichokes you are right about the difference being head being engaged or not! Ive done nothing but worry during this pregnancy!

The worst thing is that Im in Turkey already and not due home for 10 days, so I dont have my usual midwife and consultant on hand.

Will try call her tomorrow, and if all fails will gat checked out at hospital over here again.

Thanks ladies.
