How to treat those pesky piles, constipation and indigestion

I am 38 weeks. In truth I am in quite a bit of pain. Piles, constipation and acid indigestion. None of which I had with my last pregnancy. Need to get it sorted before I start feeling very sorry for myself.

So far I have tried anusol but have heard witch hazel gel is good for piles. Anyone tried this?

Re: the constipation I was going to try lactulose. Anyone got any better suggestions?

I am treating the indigestion with gavascon which is OK.

My main worry at the moment is the piles. They are agony now let alone without trying to push a baby out! I am most at the thought of them coming out even further during the birth. The MW might think they are another baby! He he he.

PILES:
Try sudacrem. I tried the witchhazel but founs germaloid better but sudacrem better still.

CONSTIPATION:
Eat 5 dried apricots per day + drink prune juice. Do not push when you go to the toilet - it will make your piles worse. Just let the poo 'fall out' which it will once you've downed the apricots and prune juice.

INDIGESTION:
Gaviscon. Don't drink water after 8pm to help with night time and sleep propped up abit.

It's awful isn't it?!?!

ooh I really sympathise with you I had an anal fissure last time and its not pleasant!

Agree that the best way to treat piles is to attack them from 2 sides - make your poos as easy to pass as poss so you don't have to strain and then treat the piles themselves.

Hopefully this combo will spead up healing.

Sudacram is very good as well as drinking lots and lots of water.

bizzarely MacDonalds alway smake me want to go to the loo

Oh and when you do your first poo after birth it may be worth eating lots of extra prunes/apricots/ etc etc to help things along a bit.

Hope this helps.

Oh yes gentle walking around helps heal them aswell

Thanks so much. I would never have thought of sudocrem. I have tons of the stuff here. I will buy some apricots, etc tomorrow. This is definately the last time I ever get pregnant!

Whe pooing raise your feet by 6 inches, put them on a childs step or a upturned bin, it puts you into the squatting position and straightens the descent for the poo's. Its been a miricle for me, also yeah, no pushing.

Also drink one cup of warm water with a slice of lemon in it first thing in the morning and then drink warm water instead of tea and coffee in the day, this will clear you out good and proper.

Prune juice by the gallon worked for me!!

I've also been eating lots of liquorice. Haven't had to strain since! Not sure if it's working but it's nice all the same and far nicer than the prune juice! Contains iron too apparently which is good for the baby.

I am suffering so badly with a huge pile, I have an emergency appt with the Consultant tomorrow to discuss inducing me. I am on my 3rd pregnancy, and a while after the 2nd delivery I had the piles removed under surgery, however I have another lot now!! good luck to all others that suffer, there is no pain like it!!

Piles : am 37 weeks (3rd pregnancy) tried Anusol and Germoloids, didn't touch the pain. Last week demanded prescription Blush from GP, was a bit arsey (pardon the pun) got UniRoid HC - the relief, the relief.

I am 32 weeks. I reckon I have found cure for all 3 wooohooooooo.

Constipation- 2 oatibix and yakult in morning. 4 tangerines in one go. 2 litres water. Works a treat. Not had a single day of constipation since starting this eating habit from 20 weeks.

Piles - whilst I do have piles it is not painful or too swollen due to diet. I don't have to strain on loo.

Heartburn- I have vit d deficiency so am on high dose calcium which I take before bed. No heartburn. I wasn't taking this in first preg and had awful heart burn.

I find gaviscon can make constipation worse, so I would most definitely recommend counteracting it with something!

I had terribly sluggish digestion and fairly dreadful piles with my last pregnancy, but seem to have avoided it this time by drinking orange juice every morning (always makes me go for some reason!) and taking childsize doses of my daughter's lactulose as a preventative measure!

Hope you feel better soon.

That's weird - several of you have mentioned aprictos and liquorice - both of these are sources of high iron...which in theory should bung you up more..why dont they when iron tablets do?

Oh another piles sufferer! I feel your pain micegg (literaly) I am 36 weeks and really suffering with Piles too, to make things worse I'm not even constipated! Deffo agree with PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt about letting it 'fall out'. Even if I push a TINY bit, I go all swollen for a few hours.

Apricots deffo work - although the 'soft' partial dried ones are better than the hard fully dried oes.. I know Morrisons do the soft ones. Dried ones can make you feel bloated.

I've found Germoloids best at relieving the pain as it is very cooling and tingly. Anusol doesn't seem to do much tbh.

I am worried about the birth also - if I push a TINY bit and they swell to hazelbut size - what on earth is going to happen to them during the pushing stage of child birth??? (shudders)

Lactulose for the constipation is vg. you need to take it for about 3 days before it will make a difference though, and KEEP taking it as if you stop, the problem will get worse again!

seriously, if you are "bunged up" when you go into labour it can make contractions more painful. I will be taking it until after Ive had the baby in anticipation! treat the constipation and the piles should improve too.

re the heartburn, gaviscon is good but also keep an eye on your diet, too much dairy/fatty food and late night eating seems to make mine worse, as well as drinking too much water.

sophielouise you may well get massive piles after delivery, mine were literally like a bunch of grapes, but they will shrink back down, promise.

lol @ pinkelephant I have geared myself to expect the worst! Just watched OBEM - and seeing how hard that girl was pushing made me realise what is going to happen.... :0)

Prune juice tastes GRIM but does work. I have about half a glass every day. Also, high fibre diet inc plenty of greens and drink plenty of fluids. I have IBS and have switched to prune juice whilst pg...seems to be working well. You could try cultured yogs/those horrid little drinks, but they just make me worse.

For some women citrus fruits makes everything a lot worse, so you could try cutting back as much as possible. Being a migraineur I was automatically not having cirtus as much as possible. Relaxed a bit more about it in pg as I don't seem to be getting migraines, but I still avoid it where I can....

The conventional presentation of a person with Pile is bleeding, usually during bowel movement. The bleeding connected with Pile smears the stool or the tissue paper, while the feces are negative for blood smudges. Many cases for Piles are painless, unless there is consequent thrombosis. Moreover, even though patients may complain of blistering or prickling, the reality is that Piles do not prickle or blister. It is the anal lining which is the spot of pruritis, and is commonly the cause of bad hygiene in the region.

I was told by a health professional to avoid liquorice:
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/8292392.stm

For constipation try oat bran in porridge, stewed apple and stewed rhubarb, and drink lots of water.

Piles - wish I had a magic cure, as I've never found anything any good except anusol HC, and that isn't allowed in pregnancy.

I had to get ranitidine from the GP for heartburn as it got so bad I was vomiting blood. It reduces acid production and is the only thing that helps.

Milled flaxseed for constipation, it's amazing stuff!! I use the linwoods brand, about 30 to 35g every morning on porridge, cereal, yogurt etc.
