Stopping drugs IVF pregnancy

Following a frozen transfer at the end of October, I am 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow. My viability scan showed a healthy heartbeat and bang on the right dates. The clinic told me they would order me enough drugs until 10 weeks and then it would be safe to stop taking them.

I was planning to go down from 2 cyclogest to 1 from tomorrow to last until 10 weeks 3 days and lubion will finish on 10 weeks 4 days. At this point I will stop the oestrogen patches and progynova as well.

Naturally, I'm nervous about this (especially as I lost my newborn son a few years ago) but I decided to trust the clinic. However, now my friend has told me the placenta won't take over until 12-14 weeks and I should kick up a fuss to get more drugs. Is it wrong for me to just trust the clinic?

Trust the clinic. I was TERRIFIED about stopping them but they honestly know best. Think about it - their reputation depends on their success rates, if it made a difference to stay on them longer then wouldn't they tell you to do that? It is okay to stop them, honestly.

Thank you so much. I was thinking that the clinic wouldn't want to sabotage their success rates but she was so adamant that I doubted myself. I need to bite the bullet (or eat the frog as my friend says) and do it.

Hi @Georgina125 I had a successful FET in September and now 16 weeks, I stopped at 12 but was decreasing what I was taking from 10 weeks - went from 3 to 2 a day for a week then 2 to 1, then nothing. The consultant told me that clinics vary, they do this because it's their protocol but other places stopped it earlier and there was no evidence of any risk of stopping earlier. Congratulations - wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy!

I agree with previous posters, stopping medication is always nerve wracking. Do trust the clinic but if you really want to stay on for a few weeks extra you could always speak to them about it.

I’ve seen people stopping as early as 8 weeks on here. My clinic was 12 weeks and my friend’s was 16 so it really does seem to vary.
