Pregnancy weight gain

Hi :-)

Now I know in the grand scheme of things weight gain is such a stupid thing to worry about during pregnancy but I’m 24 weeks currently and over the last 6 weeks it seems to be piling on fast and I don’t know how il last another 16 weeks at this rate!

I started pregnancy at 9 stone 1 but went down to 8 stone 3 with HG in the first trimester didn’t gain anything until around 18 weeks and in the last 6 weeks I’ve gone to 9 stone 10!! So 1 and a half stone in the last 6 weeks! I won’t lie I’m very active and workout everyday but my diet has been a bit crap and the craving for hating tangfastic sweets (couldn’t stand them pre preg) is probably playing a bit part!

Anyway am I just being stupid and need to stop worrying or do I need to try and curb this weight gain??

Xx

Hi I wouldn’t worry about it! From the start of your pregnancy you’ve gained 9lbs in 24 weeks (nhs recommendation Full term is 25-35lbs for a healthy bmi weight and 15-25lbs if you were a little overweight before. I also read that you gain the most in the second trimester as the third trimester you get full quicker!

I wouldn't worry... I'm 25 weeks and have put on 18 lbs since the start, but it has been much more rapid in the last few weeks (3 lbs in the last week?!) I was only 8 stone when I got pregnant and have always been slim so it's freaking me out thinking how much bigger I'm going to get!! I weigh myself once a week and check against a couple of online pregnancy weight gain calculators to check I'm still in the healthy range, which I am... just!

26 weeks here and I've put on a stone and a half Confused started off probably a bit too slim so feel my body wanted me to put the weight on as same thing happened with my dd. Weight gain in pregnancy is totally normal and it really does fall off after baby is born, try not to worry tour growing a new person in there xx

I lost 10lbs in the first trimester and I'm now 18+4 and have started gaining weight, only a pound but I put that on in 4 days so I think that's normal.

I'm 28+1 and have gone from 60kgs to 69kgs... I totally know what you mean, seeing the scales creep up and up is really disconcerting!

I’ve read you put on most weight in the second trimester but that a lot of this is water. Your blood volume increases by 50% so makes sense. I’m consoling myself with this anyway as have gained 7lb in the last 5 weeks! Am currently 24 weeks and have put on 16lb in total. I am going to be quite careful now though but I’m already eating smaller portions as my stomach feels quite pushed up and I get fuller quicker.

Thanks ladies it’s very reassuring reading your comments! It sounds silly but even though I know it’s inevitable during pregnancy, seeing those numbers on the scales creep up (and so quickly) is a bit scary. Hopefully it slows down a little as I reach the 3rd trimester! I can’t even say I’m lucky enough that it’s gone to my boobs! Think my thighs have took most the weight haha!! x

I've just weighed myself this Morning and I've put on 2 pounds in 5 days! At this rate I'll be putting on too much weight.

I'm on the route to putting on too much too @greenette so have been reigning in the snacks and getting out and about more.

Last week I gained 4lb! Couldn’t believe it! I’m kind of hoping it’s excess water as this heatwave is turning me into the michealin man with water retention

@Leah2016 if it helps I started at 10st and finished at 12st. I cycled and rode a horse till the day before I gave birth (whatever, people). I was back to my routine 2 weeks after the baby was born. I lost the weight in 8 weeks.

A lot of it is water. My diet was crap too. I however tried not to eat for 2, and still was careful with sweets (luckily I had no sweet cravings at all). The issue is, we can't out-exercise crappy diet so even if I do eat whatever is unhealthy, at least I try to limit the portions and eat in waves if possible so that I can actually "feel" hungry or full.

I am sure you'll be fine. Just keep the exercise.

Don't worry! I put on loads between 24-30 ish weeks. Had always been a healthy weight before and was worried I'd end up huge by the end. It was massive amounts going on very quickly.

Thankfully the weight gain hugely slowed down around the 30-32 week mark and really levelled off towards the end!

Im currently 32 weeks and have suffered with water retention on and off for the last month. some weeks I was gaining 1.5kg and it was really upsetting me. I think a lot of it was related to the heat. I got some advice and cut down on salt and caffeine, drank lots more water (sounds counter intuitive but it works) and also started eating bananas (they are rich in potassium which decreased sodium levels). I'm now back down to the weight I was in end of July, and can see my ankle bones now :D

Nightly, that’s amazing I’m going to try that for myself! I definitely don’t drink enough water and love salty food so perhaps it will help! Xx

I was initially a bit concerned that it could be pre eclampsia (as sudden weight gain is one of the symptoms) but I didn't have any of the others, and my midwife was happy with my BP and urine at routine appointment.

Its nice not feeling like a sausage skin about to burst this week!
