Peri prep perineal massage

Hi ladies

Just got some peri prep for the perineal massage. Bit confused. It says for external use on the oil. Where do you apply the oil if used externally? I thought you would massage it inside with fingers but I don't think this is the case.
Has anyone used this ?

The external bit of the perineum is that (for me) darker bit of skin/muscle extending from your vaginal opening to your bottom. The harder muscly bit. So you massage that bit externally and internally via the lower wall of the inside of your vagina.
I think there are milder oils you can use internally too. I'm using a nice one by Weleda that came with a leaflet with diagrams etc, my husband helps do it. I thought it would hate it but it's kind of comfortable!

Ps I am FTM so I can't say if it'll actually help reduce tearing for me but there's scientific evidence it helps. And it's not uncomfortable, so for me, worth a go anyway!

It's worth a go, but I don't think it helps. I didn't do it with either of my 9lb+ babies.

Third degree tear with my first, no tear with my second. I think for me it was all about position

I did perineal massage religiously from 13 weeks' pregnant and still tore! I hope you have more success with it!
