FTM with some questions about numbers

How many nappies, on average, does a newborn get though a day?
If I plan to exclusively breastfeed, roughly how many bottles would I need to buy (as 'just in case')?
How many bibs, on average, should a newborn need?
How many muslin cloths on average, should a newborn need?
How many blankets, on average, should a newborn need?

I'm carrying the assumption that numbers decrease as baby gets older for things like nappy changes - am I correct in assuming this? Also, in which areas are numbers likely to increase with age - and increase to what number?

I know these are a lot of questions, and thank you in advance!

I'm only 7m in but I'll share based on my experience so far!
Nappies i would say work on around 10 a day for newborn, sometimes more (especially if they wee half way through a change!) sometimes less.
Bibs and muslins can vary massively. DD had terrible reflux and I probably went through 5 or so a day in the early days, even more when she was taking bigger feeds and therefore throwing more up. For muslins I definitely say the more the merrier (they are handy for all sorts too- makeshift bib/hat/swaddle/sunshade/raincover/change mat etc). I think I've got about 15 of each altogether.
Blankets again varies on if you have a sicky one. I think I have about 6 in rotation as they take longer to dry. Keep one in pram, car, cot etc. All of this also depends on how often you are able to do laundry.
Bottles is tough because obviously if bf doesn't work out for you, you need to feed the baby so depends how close you are to shops and if you have someone you can send out? I'd probably get some premade formula (8 mini bottles) and a two pack of mam bottles.
Hope this helps!

I never used bibs (not weaning at 6 months anyway, I had no need)
Didn’t use bottles (went from BF to sippy cup at 6 months)
Nappies... around 10 a day for a newborn. Decreases over time.
Muslins... used loads with DD1 (had maybe 10 in circulation), 0 with DD2
Had maybe 3 blankets for DD1 (winter baby), DD2 was born in July so only really used 1 I think.

Hi, congrats on the new baby! I have a 3 month old so hopefully can help:
HV and midwives like to see at least 8 heavy wet nappies in a 24 hour period, and a similar number of soiled ones. DS tended to poo at almost every feed, every 2-3 hours, which covered everything! So maybe 10 or so nappies in 24 hours. At about 6/8 weeks the poos decrease but the wets are about the same, so nappy changes won't reduce too drastically!

I'm exclusively BF-ing bar the very occasional formula feed, and we got a pack of 3 first size Mam bottles.

We rotate about 8 bibs and 4 muslin. I guess it'll depend on how frequently you'll wash them. Start with a couple of packs of each and see how you go, you can always get more so there's no need to go mad to start with!

Blankets - we use a handful of varying types. 3 cellular, one thin shawl (essential!), 2 thick 'warm' ones and 1 medium all-rounder! He was a winter baby and you may not need so many, but I find it much easier to use/layer blankets when out and about than faff with coats and jackets. Blankets are great in general anyway, even just to lay baby on or build up under your breastfeeding pillow!

Hope that helps!

Nappies is, as pp say, 8-10 at first, decreases a bit as they get older.
Bibs, I have LOADS! as they often come with outfits etc so had lots of gifts. Probably have 20+, some never been used, but I am that mum who matches the babies bib to his outfit! We also didn't use bibs at first but the more he has teethed (is that even a word?!) the more we have needed them as he dribbles a lot now!
Muslins, can never have too many. I think we have well over 20. We keep some in each room e.g, his room, our room, the kitchen, the living room and with all his bits for going out of the house. Just means we always have one to hand for any dribble or sick or anything to quickly mop up and then can be chucked in the wash basket pretty regularly and I don't have to worry about getting them washed quickly. I would say 8-10 is a good number to start with and can easily pick up more if you find them useful.
Blankets, we have about 5 I think. Don't get too dirty so don't need washing too often.
Bottles - we didn't have any to start with but currently mix feed at 7 months in and have I think 5 bottles in circulation which is about 2 days worth for us. Really recommend the mam anti colic ones. I would maybe start with one 2 pack for now, then you havent spent too much money if they aren't used but 2 is enough to always be able to have one clean if needed. They are pretty easy to pick up in the supermarkets if you find you need more.

Thank you, everyone, for your helpful responses! Sorry for taking so long to respond - just submitted my university dissertation, and the weeks leading up to it were a big, stressful blur!

I appreciate your in-depth responses!
