Appetite in early pregnancy

Hi!

I'm currently pregnant with my first and will be 6 weeks gone on Friday.

However I'm finding eating extremely difficult. If I don't eat I get waves of nausea. So I have little and often. But come tea time I have no appetite at all.

If I don't eat I get the low sugar shakes and waves of sickness. But trying to force myself to eat is making me feel rubbish too.

Does anyone else get this? How did you get round it?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi I've been having this. I'm 8.5 weeks and go from a nauseous to hunger feeling most of the day, but I just don't have the appetite for big meals at all. I have toast for breakfast and then snack on (salt and vinegar) snack a jacks during the morning. This seems to curb hunger and nausea, plus munching on extra strong mints too. For lunch I can just about manage a sandwich and then come 3/4pm hungry again get home from work cook tea and just don't fancy eating it, I'll have a few bites and that's it. Come 9pm I'm starving so usually a cup of tea and some biscuits. Worst diet ever but it's all I fancy/can manage at the moment. I'm hoping things will get better in a few weeks and I'll be able to eat a more balanced diet.

I'm 27 weeks now but up until 12 weeks I had no appetite at all. There was nothing I fancied to eat and also had bad nausea. So I nibbled on bits through the day and just made myself eat at tea time.
I found cubes of cheese helped sickness....don't ask me why! And also sucking on a sweet too x

Yeah I'm trying to eat little and often. It's working out so hard though. I've gone right off tea and I don't drink coffee. I've found milkshake seems to be the only thing that settles be nausea for a short space of time.

I'll try cheese and sweets. Might be the sugar I'm craving. Who knows. I'm just trying to get used to being pregnant but at the same time keep it a secret from work cause it's early days lol xx

I had this terribly but no sickness just couldn't eat, got so bad I was fainting a lot. Little and often like you said, and water, and pregnancy vits. It will pass promise. 💐

I wouldn't recommend drinking coffee anyway, I've cut down to one cup of tea a day because of the caffeine from my midwifes advice.
What about trying some grapes or an apple as well? And I've heard crackers or plain biscuits can help too!

I just try to eat whatever I fancy. It varies each day but the thought of most foods makes me feel nauseous.
You could try sickness bands?
Hope it eases off for you enough to manage food x

I bought some of those gin gins today from
Holland and Barrett - chewy ginger sticks. My lord they were an experience. Not entirely sure whether they made me feel worse. Bit too hot for me! Really recommend the giant snack a jacks tho - salt and vinegar flavour. And the XX strong mints xx

I lost 2.5kg in the first 12 weeks, gained most of it back now but it's taken to 20 weeks.

I bought some of those (gross but so good!) weetabix drinks and tried to have one later on in the day when I felt less sick to get some calories in. It's only since about week 16 that I have an appetite again.

You'll get through it, little and often, the baby will take what it needs, are you taking vitamins?

Yep I’ve got this. Fruit has been my saviour. The only time I really fancy eating is lunch so I cram all the cals in then and try to have a small tea. I’m 8 weeks and got appetite back a bit today. I wouldn’t worry too much, you’ll have plenty of time to catch up on eating, With my last pregnancy I lived on white egg mayo sarnies and sweets for the 1st trimester, so unhealthy. The baby gets what it needs regardless.

Thanks everyone. It's great to know that I'm not the only one whose felt it as rubbish as it is. I have to be careful what I eat aswell because I'm celiac. Was diagnosed about a week before I found out I was pregnant. Am taking pregnacare vitamins to get everything I need. But I think I'm just going to carry on eating little and often. Hopefully the nausea subsides. I'd rather be sick then feel sick if that makes sense. Thank you all for your advice. This is all so new to me.

Wish I had bloody well lost weight. I seem to have doubled in size and I'm only 10 weeks.
