Painful Braxton hicks

I'm 24+2, 2nd preg. I THINK I've been experiencing Braxton hicks, but not entirely sure as I didn't have them with my first.
Anyway it's like intense period pains, in my front and back, with tightenings too.
Problem is they are extremely painful, to the point of holding my breath and having to stop what I'm doing.
What can I do to ease the pain? I'm almost crying Sad

Call your midwife, that doesn’t sound like regular Braxton hicks.

Sorry I meant to add that they are not regular.. although I can experience them for up to an hour, at least 6 times a day

I had something similar with my pregnancy, and they took it seriously and brought me in for monitoring. No one here can tell you if this is something serious. You need to make that call to your midwife. Let us know how it goes.

Agree with others, phone your midwife as that doesn’t sound like BH. Explain exactly how you feel and they should get you in to check what’s happening. How long has it been going on for? X

At 29 weeks with my 2nd I thought i was going into labour but it turned out to be spd. No harm getting midwife to check you over.

OP I have been having this every evening for around 15 - 20mins at a time. Not constant of course but it does take my breathe, I called the Doctor (telephone advise) and he said this is just my body getting ready as this is my second pregnancy 🤔. I will speak to the midwife about this at the next appointment as I'm only 20w 3d. But this has been happening for the last week. I hope all is well with you

Phone the hospital, I had severe abdominal pain which radiated to my back at 20 weeks and turned out to be an infection. They stripped me off and put a fan on me and put me on a drip, had to stay in for a couple of days for monitoring

Will my midwives office be open today? Or would I be best calling triage?
This has been happening for over a week now, but the pain intensity has increased a lot over the weekend. I've taken paracetamol but it doesn't seem to help at all

Call the maternity unit, the number should be on your notes. They will likely want you in for monitoring. I had this in my second pregnancy too and glad to go in twice for monitoring. It is better to speak to a HCP today rather than wait. Good luckThanks

Call the maternity unit, the number will be in the front of your folder, usually in big bold lettering x

My BH were like this! I did phone triage just to make sure though, so maybe you should too as everyone is different :) dehydration can bring them on I find! I’ve had them all the way through x

Im 22 weeks with my second and have definitely been having strong BH - they're pretty strong and uncomfortable tightening feelings, but I wouldn't say painful enough for painkillers. If you're needing to take paractemol I'd definitely ring triage for advice. Hope all is ok x

Urgh I've been getting them in the front but super painful I'm really stressed and thought that might be causing them. Will have a massive drink after reading above poster
