Not 'reduced' movements, just different - 36 weeks

Hey all,

I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and up until now baby has always been very active all through the day and night. My placenta is at the back so I feel a lot of it pretty much hourly. Baby's most active time is in the evening and at night when I settle down for sleep - then I get proper stomach

These last two nights have been totally different, movements at the same time but much more 'dimmed' and less sharp is the only way I can describe it. Then I haven't felt anything else all night until morning when I've got up and had a drink. Could this just be baby being too big for the space or perhaps establishing some kind of sleep pattern?

He's currently making my stomach contort in all sorts of gross ways so he's definitely moving fine and just as active. I have a midwife appointment tomorrow so I'll mention it. Also been having a lot of braxton hicks and some dull achey pains a bit like period pains in the evenings, I wonder if he could be planning on making an early entrance.

Did anyone find the same at around 36 weeks?

Ring your midwife for advice, especially as you are not 37 weeks yet.

Even thought I'm seeing her tomorrow and baby is moving plenty?

I’d ring your midwife or triage. It’s always better to just check these things with someone

Yep, ring now as 24 hours is a long time to waits. Changes to movement should be investigated and it is a myth that babies movement slows down before they arre born.

I'm 36 weeks and having the same. Posterior placenta so have felt lots of movement. My baby moves just as much but it's not as strong as before as she is running out of space. I've heard it's normal. I've got an obstetrician appointment this afternoon so I'll mention it then but expect it to be fine.

I was told to ring for any change in movement at all. I had to go in 5 times, and the midwives were lovely.
It won't hurt to ring the unit and run it past them. Better to do that than wait.

Please call your midwife or assessment unit, they will never mind being contacted. Always better to be cautious.

Change in movement should always be checked. The midwives would much rather see 100 women where everything checked out fine than miss the one who needed to be seen

If I called and went in, where would they be likely to send me? Or would they be able to check me over themselves? The main hospital where I had my scans is over an hour away and I don't drive - hence my hesitancy

I had this exact same thing yesterday. Baby was still moving but less and different, it was really hard to explain. I called my local midwife led unit, they brought me in immediately, and checked me over, then put me on a monitor to check heartbeat and movements. Baby was absolutely fine but they said it was the right thing to call, they'd rather see you and it be fine, than the alternative. Call your midwife and see if you can be checked over somewhere locally.

My midwife told me it can feel different near the end when baby runs out of space so shuffles instead of having lots of room to move around in. I’d still contact midwife (I did when it happened and got hooked up to machines just to be safe) but also try not to worry

It is possibly baby engaging and getting ready, although still might not yet make an appearance for weeks. However, I was told when pregnant "you will never regret making a call" as in, all, speak to MW, they are more experienced and will know what questions to ask.

I went in for reduced movements, they put me on the monitor and checked the baby/babies position.
